And I suppose it is true. My real self is in here but I find the skin of a chameleon Very Natural. Having been around a wildly diverse setting as a child in NYC during the 70's and having a life full of adventure and Misadventure Including many jobs that were "acting" Jobs.. Teacher, Sales, Bartender, Rock musician etcetcetc... I'm a real slice of life without even trying... how to parley that into an acting 'Career" (maybe the wrong word) ? I have no desire to be rich and famous and all that other nonsense that star struck youngsters initially think of... I have the skill of adaptation and mimicry and a real world understanding of different personality types.
But at 42.... how does as old fart like me get going with this life long dream?

No I'm not annoying to be around (at least my wife and friends don't think so)... quite the opposite I am very pleasant to be around as I integrate so easily... and I love to make people laugh.

Start auditioning for small acting jobs that are obtainable on Craigslist under the "Talent" or Radio/TV jobs" sections. Once you start doing so you will develop a circle of regular friends, acquaintances and contacts. From there things will blossom with hard work and good skills.

Find an audition. You are never too old to start something new. I'm somewhat the way you are. If acting would fit into my life, without taking everything away from my husband and son, I'd go for it in a second! Go for it Honey!

i was somewhat confused when reading this, but heres my advice for ya.
It sounds like your stuck in a precedent between what you've always wanted, and how you've been living for society. What you gotta do is put yourself out there. Start low, enjoy yourself, talk with people, make connections. See if theres any groups, clubs, societies, classes around your area. Work in the more commons "acting" jobs like you mentioned until then so you can make good use of your skill.

i dont know how much help these will be, but its worth a look

If you (and Marion F.) are interested in pursuing acting, I encourage you to do so. I did not act professionally until I was 40 and Paul Ford was 50. I am now retired from acting and spend my time advising aspiring actors at no charge. If you would like some free pointers, read my profile and contact me at my aol address.

Even though you've been called an actor and have held "actor-y" jobs, doesn't mean that you will enjoy stage or film acting or that it's for you. Audition for a local community theatre production, that's the best way to try it out. If you're in a smaller area, check your local newspaper - they often post calls for auditions. If you're in NYC or LA, there are lots of avenues to go through to find auditions.

Actually its something I have been thinking about too. And I'm 45. I have a couple of theaters in my area that produce local plays, so I have been thinking of going there and see if I can get information. That may be an option for you also. Good luck

A place to start might be to go see one of those agencies who hire 'faces' for t.v. I would also suggest you look around your local area for beginners acting classes. What you just need is a place to start.

You already have the flame lit. Now you need to keep it burning. Good luck.

P.S. A friend of mine and his mum used to be extras from time to time in movies. Another way to start.

1st.-Dont call yourself names, you are a very important individual to all. Maybe who you are acting like is who you are , who you really are & can be. Turn your life over to Jesus Christ & He will reveal your true identity. You see there is one for the world before salvation, then who He wants us to be will come out in time. I admire all your expierences you have shared. people find you intereseting, some will be jealous as they have never done anytrhing but pick apart those who become!"They are like the man on the bench at the red-lite. he see"s a Cadilac Convetable pull up, leans forward & says": What I would give to have that automobile, lite turns green, he leans back, continues watching. doesnt want to get up & do anything to get a car, so there he remains ,a loafer!!!!!!!!!! See what i mean? Enjoy your past expierences, get into the now with God, & go forward! whitedaisy. Also, look for someone you can help along the same lines.whitedaisy
