What's the best way to be an author. I love suspense but my ideas get all mixed up. I have some great story concepts...any thoughts as to how to get started?

Sketch the details of your main and potential characters - start with looks, mannerisms, background, etc. Write the details down - or even draw them if you are a visual person.

Then take your main character or characters and imagine them in some new odd/out of the ordinary (out of your current work's context) places or scenarios – anything goes! Write down ideas on what would have to happen to your type of character or how they would react to the scenario you placed them in.

This may seem futile, but it will help you flesh out your characters further and give you insight into what you may want to happen to this type of character in a potential story. You may even come up with multiple story lines and can see if one of them just seems to be the best or easiest to continue

Strong well-crafted main characters can inspire readers to love your story as well as drive you to write a great story for these imagined beings to be in! :-)

This should get you going. Then you may want to write an outline of you story (a kind of synopsis), including the ending. I have heard that John Irving writes his endings first, down to the last line, and works backwards. The idea of the outline is to give you goals as you proceed. Writing the ending first may give you the "spark" you seek - and also

I keep an idea book where I jot down notes about stories or even write out scenes then transfer them to the PC later. I also formed a writer's group. We help each other with constructive criticism and pointers as well as encourage one another to write.
Also start a blog, but focus on a subject. Don't waste your time (and that of your reader's) with day to day boring stuff. Add topics and subjects that are interesting. Share what you know. Writing everyday is one tip I find almost every author will tell you to do. This helps improve writing skills as well as providing you the habit of writing every day.
Writing outlines help keep a basic framework to your story. There are also a number of online resources, including classes (free) you can take to learn grammar, story line, synopsis, etc.

Me too!
I have already started writing my book but somehow I can't get the words onto the paper the way they sound in my head.
Then one night I was reading some fan-fictions and had an idea and wrote a short story which I have finished within one hour.
What I am trying to say is: start with something short and then maybe you can even put a book of stories together.
If you want to start with a book anyway I would suggest to make a plan as in decide how many chapters. What will happen in each chapter etc.
Hope this helps.

the best way to be an author is to read an author of your choice as much as u can.Take the tips from the stories. Then read other authors in the same line. If your mind tends to compare and contrast the elements of storywriting, you will not only be an author, you will go a long way.And believe me, you will begin writing stories just as u begin smilingGood luck and happy new year!

Start small and write a short story. Find a place where you can get some gentle criticism ( a writing class; a school newspaper), and try to publish it. Look for contests for authors. You could even make your own web page to publish it online.

I have written a few, and it is great fun. Good luck.

Start a journal. Write everyday. The best writers are working on a dozen ideas at the same time. Go with what excites you.
Only you can write what you write. You are the best.
