Rottweilers can be dangerous because of their large size, in fact statistics show their more dangerous than pit-bulls, but silly humans are like dumb sheep and tend to hate the pit-bull and want it banned from their communities.
I happen to adore Rottweiler's and pit-bull-staffordshire breeds and yes it is up to the owners to train their dogs correctly.....
KEEP in mind there are crazy dogs, just like their are crazy people and they are unpredictable and should be put-down /euthanized ,removed from out society, no matter the breeding I've no pity for the crazies

Who the hell are you calling scumbags?!!
Yes, it was a shame that the kid got killed, of course it is a shame. What do you want to happen? Do you want the grandparents to go to jail as well as losing their grandson?
This was a tragic accident. The dog had been around children before and had never shown signs of aggression. Out of all the people who own rottweilers and other dogs, only a very tiny proportion ever act attack anyone. It is all very well to say the dog should not have been left with the children, but the truth is dogs and children are left together all the time and there are very rarely any problems with this.
This was a tragic incident, but there is no real blame to be dished out, the dog has been put down, and sad as this was, we have to remember that this is a very rare occurrence and it would be a shame to start banning more dog breeds and punishing people unnecessarily.
PS - I have been attacked by a dog. I was sitting in a relatives house, having a cup of tea and speaking to my aunt, when her dog suddenly flew across the room and sunk its teeth into my leg and wouldn't let go, it was extremely painful and left scarring. The dog was 7 years old and had never shown signs of aggression before.
It was a Yorkshire terrier.

The dog wasnt correctly disciplined or it wouldnt bite, the child should have never been left alone with it unless they knew it wouldnt do anything, the breed of dog hasnt a thing to do with it, there isnt any "killer breed" all dog behave in accordance to how they are raised and how they perceive any activity, the rottwieler and the staffordshire arent ,by nature ,any more likely to bite than a poodle..so the only scumbags would be the parents that let this happen to their child by not properly supervising.

Who are scumbags?
The dog and child should never have been left alone together. NO dog no matter how big or how small or how cute should be left alone with a child. All dogs have the potential to bite. No matter how well trained they are. All children have the potential to torment a dog. I have two cute little fluffy dogs and I wouldn't imagine that they would ever hurt a child, but I would still never leave them alone with a child.

this was a beautiful little boy aged one year savaged by a dog weighing 8-10 stone. the blame lies solely with the dog owners. they kept a wild animal where children were living. and they had only had the dog for 6 months so they couldnt possibly have any idea how it would behave. there iwere two other young children who were also at risk. it sickens me. these dogs are killers and should be in cages ,or better still. no longer bred.

Why the hell was a rottweiller around a young child? Or did the bloody kid tease the poor animal? Irresponsible owners/parenting!

Dogs and children should never be left alone together unsupervised at any time. The only time I was bitten by a dog it was a Pekingese so even a small dog can cause some damage.

Terrible! I think a key to this tragedy lies in the fact that the family "pet" was kept in the back yard. Some pet!
