I run Vista on two of my three systems. I like it just fine. It works well, is faster and way more secure the is XP and hasn't blue screened or crashed in the 11 months that I have been using it. Yes, it does need a little tweaking, but so does XP. Vista handles the NTFS file allocation tables way better then XP which means that more data per sector can be handled by the disk system. And it handled my network flawlessly.
I see allot of negative comments about the OS, and do not understand why. There are allot of new innovations that have been built into this new operating system. Perhaps the problem lies with some folks lack of knowledge and ability when it comes to setting up and running an operating system.
I wonder if the people who are complaining about Vista remember what a mess XP was when it first came out. It took about a year and the first service pack to get it up to speed.
One last thing. If Microsoft sticks to what it has said, XP will no longer be offered after the end of next June. I'm sure that there will be plenty of copies that are left of store shelves, but Microsoft will no long be releasing any new copies after that date. I'm sure that XP will be supported for another couple of years, but then it will slip into the same catagory as did 98, obsolete.
Vista is the "Windows" operating platform of the future, and we might as well get used to it.
One last comment. I'm sure that we will go through all of this again in 6 to 8 years when Microsoft releases it's next operating system. They are already working on it.

Got a new notebook with Vista Home Premium on it. Much to my surprise, it works GREAT! I use it all the time. I have several machines dual booting XP and Ubuntu and had this notebook dual booting Vista and Ubuntu but I ended up giving Ubuntu the boot off of the notebook and just running Vista. Vista has a lot of the features XP sorely lacked. XP is what drove me to start running Linux in the first place! I think Vista is a good product and that a lot of the negative commentary and reviews are from people prejudging the OS based on what they have heard. This is not to say I approve of or endorse Microsofts' marketing schemes!

I only good thing about Vista is the fancy look - but you can get that also on XP with the right tools. In general, I much prefer XP!

my stance in direction of vista is impartial. some valuable properties are sturdy, some arent i like xp greater suitable than vista with the aid of fact it makes use of much less gadget components, and has a sparkling, person-friendly-to-understand interface the foremost income to vista is the further "risk-free practices" (how good i don't be attentive to) and the attention-candy. i in my view have a extreme-end sony laptop on vista (new) and an older custom-equipped laptop. i detect it disappointing that the boot time on the laptop is barely with reference to an identical with the aid of fact the custom-equipped laptop it is 3 years previous (yet runs xp). on good of that the laptop has double the RAM, and a cpu that's a minimum of thrice greater efficient than the single on the laptop.
