if you are sure that no hardware item is changed, there is a problem with sound driver. you can check it from "my comouter properties". and then by device manager.check whether the sound card drver is shown there. if not reinstall the driver. your soud should work. if your soubd driver already exists, check the sound properties they might be "muted"

Click on Start, Control Panel
Click on Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices, (category view)
then Sounds and Audio Devices.
There should be a check box that says something like Place on Taskbar. Check that and click on Apply.

unplug it while it is on. Then go plug it back in. When it comes back on hit the enter button and everything should pop back into the startup menu.

right click on your my computer click the tab hardware.then device manager,see if there any yellow check mark..if there is..u need to reinstall the dariver back
