Just to clarify - we are debating between Carolyn (pronounced car-o-LYNN) or Caroline ("caro-LINE"). Thanks!

OK - last name is Corbit. (If that makes any difference)... great thoughts so far. Thanks so much!

Caroline, hands down.
Carolyn feels dated, as does Kathryn. Changing the end of classic "ine" names to "yn" was an earlier generation's version of changing "son" to "syn" in Madison and Addison.
The Caroline and Katherine spellings have been comfortably in the Top 100 for the past 15 years. (In fact, Katherine has been there throughout most of the century.) Meanwhile, the Carolyn and Kathryn verions have waxed and waned.
Back in the 1940s, the Carolyn spelling was Top 20, while the "ine" version rose to the rather obscure high 100s, even over 300. But by 1970, the two names pulled even - and since the mid-90s, Caroline has steadily risen while Carolyn has headed towards obscurity. Last year, the "lyn" version was #517, while the "line" version was 89.
Perhaps it's due to the popularity of Madeline, but I think it's a more a signal that variant spellings rarely stand the test of time.
While some might feel that the "lyn" spelling is the better choice precisely because it is less common. But in cases when the sound is identical, regardless of spelling, I think it's best to go with the dominant spelling.
Caroline is a great choice!

With that last name, I would probably go with Caroline. Both are cute, but like I said, I would go with Caroline. It's very sweet and pretty. Carolyn seems like the name of an older lady (no offense). Plus, I think Caroline is more unique too. You might have some minor mispronunciations though (teachers and such might call her caro-lynn upon meeting her). It would be fitting for any type of female: tomboy or girly-girl, old or young. Good choices. Hope this helps and good luck with your new baby girl!

I like Caroline better. Carolyn sounds like an older person's name. I agree with some of the other people on here about the -lyn spellings. They are too trendy and overused. Caroline is a classic! It also goes better with your last name.

I don't like Carolyn. It just doesn't sound correct. I teach a ballet class & there are 3 Carolyn's in it, & 1 Caroline. I love the name Caroline. My baby cousin was born 2 days ago ( the 27th) & her name is Caroline Elizabeth. She is sooooooo gorgeous.

I like Caroline, but I think the name Carolyn is very pretty! It would really help what the middle and last names are. Maybe you could just leave the middle name but put something that rhymes with the last name just so its easier for us to choose?

I like the Caroline. It sounds more formal and would seem to me to give the child an option later on in life for a more formal presentation in business etc. The shortened version of either is still Carol and another option for the child.
Either way have a great baby experience. There is nothing like it in life.
