The Classical Music Period was from 1750-1820. There was the American and the French revolutions, the Industrial Revolution, the discovery of electricity by Benjamin Franklin and great literature by authors such as Jane Austin and Lord Byron. Classical Music was the main genre. Symphonies, sonatas and concertos were the most popular types of music.

The Romantic period in music, which succeeded the Classial period, was well established by 1820. Beethoven (1770-1827) introduced Romanticism in his early works, around 1800. Of course some composers, such as Haydn, who died in 1809, continued to compose in the Classical style, so that the two periods overlapped (as periods in art ususally do).
