Socialism is afraid of competition.

Socialism is also a Protectism. When We fall behind, we protect ourselves from the competition.

How many people can be qualified as CEO and CIO??? They are the ones who manage the BIG Corporations and it comes with BIG RESPONSIBILITY. I dont see Liberals complain about the salary of any professional sport players.

The Democratic Party and its supporters may include some socialists, but in general Democrats and socialists are quite distinct.

Since the Democrats and Republicans divided along philosophical lines in the 1960s and '7os, most Democrats have been "neoliberals"; we agree with classical liberals (what Americans traditionally calls "conservatives") on an emphasis on individual liberty, but extend our notions of government's proper role in securing and promoting that liberty to the economic sphere.

My favorite example is the FTC's don't-call list, which I find to be a great boon to my personal freedom, but which a pure classical liberal would have to condemn as a government intrusion on economic activity.

Neither classical liberalism nor neoliberalism is at all compatible with socialism, which involves government control of the means of production.

I find that many YA participants fling around accusations of socialism, communism, fascism, Nazi-ism, and so forth with very little justification. None of these extremist views is at all compatible with the philosophies underlying conservative (mostly Republican) or liberal (mostly Democratic) major party activities.

Portions of both parties may, however, step over the line occasionally. Republicans are very fond of government intrusion into personal liberties, and I admit some Democrats are overly fond of government control of businesses.

The trouble is that the middle, which is where all proponents of individual liberty wind up, is always a balancing act. The extremes give easy answers, requiring no thought. I'd rather be a bit of a mugwump than a clam; at least birds have the possibility of flight.

The democrats want to make it possible for more people to attend college to improve their lives. The democrats want people to earn a living wage. That doesn't mean they make the same as a doctor or lawyer. Have you ever had to work 2 or 3 jobs to keep your home? Trust me, that isn't akin to living your life. Its extremely unhealthy.

Mostly its some of the young people who don't see much of a future for themselves that feel socialism is a viable substitute for capitalism. You're right. They don't see themselves winning in a competitive world. They are the ones who need to see the opportunities that used to be available to more people in the U.S. That is one of the most important things democrats represent. Can you see the difference?

To the EXTREME, it may sound scary, but he didn't mention B.K. workers. He said Soldiers and Defenders of the public, and I agree with him. What? You think getting a 60 million dollar severance pay for 1 years work is just and right?? Live in your own world, we'll live in the real one.

He or she might have meant a socialist democracy (or whatever the term is). That would be something different. A mixed economy.
