I didn't get the chance to go through the episiotomy, because I needed a c-section at the last minute.

Whether you do vaginal birth or c-section birth is all HURTS, no matter what. It's just a part of having a baby and being a mom. You must go through pain if you want kids. Sorry

Cheers

There are more than six billion people in the world which means that childbirth has happened more than six billion times. Some women in rural areas start the day planting rice, take a break for lunch to give birth, then go back to the field to plant some more. How your labor is going to turn out is as unique as your threshold for pain. The episiotomy healing period takes about two weeks. You can use a small life-saver shaped cushion to sit on in the mean time. You can also help the healing by using infra-red lamp available in the infant section of your local department store.
If you have an option to have an epidural, do so. You don't have to be a martyr. Motherhood would give you more than one opportunity to be a martyr, so pass up on the no-drugs-during-labor and childbirth crap.

Yes it is painful, but what a wonderful reward you get when it's over. Some women have more pain then others. Have you taking the birthing classes. Did you check into a doula? This is a woman that will coach you through your delivery. My daughter has 3 children 6, 3, and 2. she chose to do a midwife and had all them at home!!! Her dad and I were there it was awesome. The episiotomy is usually done in hospitals. That's nothing to worry about. Good luck and relax!!
uUse your breathing techniques, and go with the flow! It will be all right! The unknown always is scarey. God Bless

Hi,
couple things. Nobody can tell how long or short a labor is. There are alot of factors. One being your pain tolerance level. I have 2 boys, ages 4 and 3. First I had with an epideral, 2nd, with nothing at all. I had fairly short labors, first was about 6 or 7 hours, 2nd was 5 hours about. Doctors are amazing. There are alot of things they can do to help with pain relief during labor and birth. I used alot of sort of meditation type things with the 2nd. To try and divert myself from the labor. And I found walking as long as I could was helpful because I had to focus on walking.
You can do it! And the reward for that short part of your entire life - the labor and birth - is SO worth it.
Let me know how it goes and good luck to you.

Being scared is normal. Especially with all of the horror stories people just LOVE to tell you!
Educate yourself! Read websites and books. http://www.hencigoer.com/ is a good place to start.
It is much better to tear than to be cut. There is much evidence proving such.
If you study birth, learn what is going on and make the choice to have a baby with no drugs (which do affect the baby) you will be glad the rest of your life.
There is no other feeling in the world that can come close to the feeling of accomplishment you have after birth. No feeling that can cause a mother to feel incrediably close to her child like the pain of birth and labor.
You will never regret it.

You need to do prenatal perenial massage to stretch you in advance. Also you need a doctor that does not do routine episiotomies. Episiotomies can actually cause tears. I hope you have been taking classes. I took Bradley classes and it made a lot of difference.

awww ...well theres no way of dressing it up im afraid...yes it does hurt and anyone that ells ye it doesnt ..couldnt of had kids lol! time of labour totally depends on baby i guess!my first was nealy 3 days and my second was less than an hour and my 3rd well he was done within 30 mins start to finish so all are different ... with my first i i 'tore' but i wasnt even aware of it until i was told...the stitches were uncomfortable but bearable... ye are better to be cut than to tear (my midwife said anyway)as the can control the cut but if ye tear it can be a bit worse... anyway no matter how much pain and discomfort baby definatly makes up for it!!!!
wish ye the best of luck and try just take it as it comes..these things may not even happen and with a bit of luck he/she will make a quick appearence for ye!!!

they are all questions that no one can actully tell you....no labor and birth is the same as another and we all have different pain thresholds... my labor went for 26 hours 3 hours of pushing i tore and had 12 stiches after birh, it hurt to pee for a few days after I couldn't walk well because i was sore from giving birth, I had an epidural and it run out half way through pushing and they didn't top it back up I could still feel EVERYTHING and it was extreamly painful because my daughter was stuck and she was rather big.

There is no avoiding the pain of birth when you are pregnant. It's impossible to say how you will do. Everyone is so different. Recent medical advances can make birthing as comfortable as it can be. The thing to keep in mind, is when it is over, you will have a beautiful child in your arms. That thought makes it all worth it! Don't worry. Many women have done it, so can you!

No matter what, it will hurt. How much is another story. Try not to worry too much, and IF you need a c-section, plan more for the recovery, you'll need at least a week after you get out of the hospital. If you can, ask your mom, mother in law, sister, to stay the week after you get home. Your hubby is best, but mine had to go back to work right away, and he was nervous of caring for her. At first. :D
