This is a different kind of musical. It's not like Hairspray where not only does the ensemble burst into song, but then all the surrounding folks get sucked into the singing and dancing as well. No, that doesn't happen in Sweeney Todd. The songs are by and large very personal and communicate important plot points and intense emotions (instead of singing for the sake of singing).
This isn't your average twittering, fluffy nonsense. There's a song about putting different kinds of human flesh into meat pies, there's a song about how everyone in the world deserves to die (set to a fantasy sequence wherein Sweeney stalks the streets, pointing at different men, demanding that they bleed under his razor). There's a song during which half a dozen throats are slit in rapid succession. There are a few "silly" numbers but you WILL laugh. They're awesome.
In short, I think this will be a musical you can appreciate, even though the film IS 85-90% sung.

A good musical will have dialogue and music seamlessly blend into each other, it never is just random people singing out of place. But Sweeney Todd isnt' a horror in any sense, it's a dark comedy.
You've got to keep an open mind if you want to see a film like that, having a bias and saying "oh i hate musicals" will just make sure that you'd be wasting your time watching it.

Don't see Sweeny Todd and wait.
What you need is a horror movie/musical combo that you would like.
Like "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Little Shop of Horrors", "The Wizard of Oz"
or maybe you like cartoon horror/musicals, "The Nightmare Before Christmas"or "Corpse Bride"

You must be thinking of the old musicals where the songs could be removed from the movie and it wouldn't affect the story line at all. In Sweeney Todd much of the dialog is sung so you have to pay attention. I have seen it and if you like Slasher movies you will like this one .
You will not be bored.

I feel your pain. I love horror films and I REALLY love Johnny Depp, but that blasted SINGING was just about to drive me over the edge! I watched it, but I swear, a couple of times I felt like walking out. The damn singing just goes on FOREVER! It would have been a good movie if not for the singing.

The main reason why I haven't watched that movie is because is a musical. Literally, they won't talk much, but sing the dialogs. It's a pity, I was looking forward to see when I heard about it. But, I can't stand musicals.

I've tried watching it, and I hated it! I LOVE horror movies, but there's just WAY too much singing in it, so much so that I couldn't follow the story.
So yeah, if you hate musicals, don't waste your time.
