"The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."

Complacency to apathy gets my vote.
Look at the presidential candidates both republican and democrat.
Do you think that any one of them is qualified to hold that office???
And the media acts like its the greatest thing ever.

That's a great quote!

Unfortunately, I believe America has already slipped back into bondage - just not the traditional kind. I recently read that better than 50% of Americans rely on some form of government ( read taxpayer ) assistance. That is bondage both for the people who have their money seized and for the people who, for whatever reason, receive it.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid we are beginning the apathy to dependence stage. Look at the illegal immagrant problems we have, and how our government is allowing them to receive benefits.

Just my 2 cents...
