I have a wonderful old 130 pound Chesepeake that is my buddy. He is 12 years old now and really showing his age. We take good care of him and hope he holds up a few more years but....when he is gone I will be sorely missing him. Are any of you really attached to your pet? Do yo think everyone should have one , just for the comfort and companionship? I just don't know what I would do if I had to come home to an empty house without him. Tell me about your pets.

YES, CRIED MORE WHEN MY PET BOSTON TERRIER(SPIKE) DIED IN 2005, THEN I DID WHEN PARENTS DIED.
HE WAS SO GOOD. 15 YEARS. ALWAYS WAITING AT THE DOOR FOR ME TO COME IN FROM WORK.HE KNEW WHEN THE WIFE WAS HAVING A SEIZURE AND WOULD TUG ON HER ROBE WHILE SHE MADE BREAKFAST. SHE WOULD HAVE TO SIT DOWN AND PET HIM, THEN SHE WOULD PASS OUT AT THE TABLE AND NOT HIT THE FLOOR. THEY KNOW THEIR MASTERS BETTER THEN A DOCTOR.
HAD TO GET ANOTHER ONE TO TAKE HIS PLACE IN 2007 WE GOT HOWIE. COULD NOT DO WITHOUT SOMEONE WHO ONLY WANTS ATTENTION AND LOVE.

I have had a pet all my life. I have been through many sad times when they get old and their time comes. I get through it knowing that the animal had a really good life. Presently I have 3 pets: A beagle named Daisy (3 years old), a parrot named Buddy (2 years old) and a cat named Stormy Jr. 1 year old. Looks exactly like his dad who we lost 6 months ago. When I get home from work the dog needs to be first yelping hello then the bird chimes in when I go into the house. The cat, well, he is just a cat. I have to say hello first lol.

I have had pets all my life. I had a wonderful blonde Cocker Spaniel who was my constant companion for 17 years. He's been gone three years and I still miss him. Okie was such a gentleman.
At the present time, I have a beautiful blonde Pomeranian who is a real joy. I also have a 12 year old Siamese, "Fancy" and a 3 year old Tortoiseshell "Shadow" who's a real clown ... beautiful cats!! I have a cockatiel "Cassie" and two parakeets, Oliver and Sweetie Bird. I wouldn't want to be without my pets!

It is good for all to have a pet of some sort..it can be a dog or cat, or goldfish, or budgie...does not matter. The fact is, the pet gives us a reason for getting up in the morning, we have to care for and provide for this animal, and gives us a purpose in life. What would we do with out a pet. Yes of course we get attached to our pets, after all they are all a part of the family.

Yes Ridder I have two cats - one is a British Blue striped Rex and the other is an American short hair - his name is Splodge and he is black - all over. Katy, the Blue, is the most playful! She also is my "protector" - she sleeps with me, sits under my chair at the dinner table and follows me all thru the house. Splodge is big and fat and just lies around the house - usually spread eagled over the back of the sofa!
I have previously had dogs, ponies, horses and more cats. I miss all of them, and when Katy and Splodge "go" - I do not know what I will do?! My health is not good and it is all I can do to look after me! But time will tell. I live in hopes! CJ

My lovely Dogs, Dylan a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 4 in February & Maise a Shih Tzu 6months old, the love and companionship they give is priceless, Dylan has Diabetes and I have to inject him twice a day, this condition causes him not to be able to hold on going for a wee in the night, I sometimes have to get up as much as 3 times in the night, so I can feel exausted quite a lot, but I love him so much, and well, Maisie is still at the silly puppy stage, she can be so comical, I'm certain she tries to talk...lol...........so in answer to your question, I really do believe it is so good for anyone to have a pet, it has been proven they help so much, the list would be endless in the way that they do

Suzie Q.................what a lovely story about your wonderful dog Max, you must have really treasured him

Edit...I just thought how nice it would be if we all show pics of our lovely pets, I certainly love to see others pics, I will try and send link for mine, but I'm not to good at this and it's always hit and miss, but here goes...

I have three cats, a 7 yr old female Maine coon named Grendell, also affectionately known as Slasher, or the Bi**h, due to her grumpy attitude and attempts to bite anyone who tries to pet her. Not really serious, tho, she loves the attention, she just doesn't want you to know it.

Then there is Cutie Pie, a 6 yr old tortoiseshell female who came to us from my mother in law, who decided she could no longer take good care of her. Sweet tempered and affectionate, a total lap cat.

Last but not least, an Abyssinian male given to us by my stepson, as a kitten. Just over a year old, and a total lover boy. Full of it and himself, a really great mouser. Head-butts in the morning to get me up, and has set himself up as the keeper of the food dish (it's empty, time to fill it! We're all hungry!) Also a lap cat, sometimes there is competition for my lap! Likes to keep the "girls" stirred up, surprise attacks from behind and above. Helps them get some excercise.

We are attached to all of them, and it is really sad when we lose a cat. Last year we lost our old Maine coon male, he was one of the best.

Peaches, a very beautiful pit bull my husband and I found as a very sick puppy. We've gone to great lengths to give her nothing but kindness and a very secure place to live where she can not accidentally get into trouble. Then every night she comes in to the house and sleeps in her crate in my bedroom.

a border collie that hates Peaches and it is a routine to provide their needs and all the while keeping them apart.
Pearl, the Border loves catnip!

four cats, all rescues

and the best, a white faced, or spectacled amazon who I got when he was 9 months old. He is 24 now.

And here I thought I was the only one who had a bird named Pippa (pip ah).

He died.

I would like another bird, but then I would again be the sole person to take care of it.

Right now hubby does not want me to spend $$ on a bird.

We are both disabled and are having financial impossibilities, we are in the red at our bank. We need $$$.

We have a dog who is 11 years old. Don't ask me what breed he is. He is a mix and was a pound puppy. He has a very sweet personality. He weighs about 60 pounds and looks like a bear when he has all his fur. Some people say he looks like an Australian shepherd, but we're not sure. We
love him a lot and take good care of him. My husband named him Rufty. The name suits him.

My g'kids had a 12 year old Lab they had since a puppy that really watched the kids! She never bit anybody and protective of the kids. She couldn't be caught to load in the truck and when they moved she walked. Couldn't keep her in a fence or garage!! Cops gave her 17 tickets with no convictions!! LOL!! We went to dog court constantly but the judge knew she was a protector and would only warn us. She died about 6 months ago and even the dog catcher was sad. My daughter lost 2 days of work because of swollen eyes!!
