My husband's family is getting together for a holiday party tomorrow. As I was writing my grocery shopping list I was trying to think of something different to bring to the party....and I thought it might be fun to try and make sugar plums. I've not done them before, but it won't be the first time I've tried making something I've not done before for them; there'll be at least 22 of us, so I figure someone might like them....:) I'd love to know if you've had them before and if you like them.

I have never made them, but my sister in law has and this is very similar to her recipe:

1/2 cup dried apricots
1/2 cup pecans
1/3 cup angel flaked coconut
1/4 cup golden raisins
1/4 cup dried apples
2 tablespoons any fruit liqueur
confectioner's sugar

Makes About 32 Sugar Plums

In a food processor fitted with a steel blade, finely chop the apricots, pecans, coconut, raisins, and dried apples. With the motor running, add the desired liqueur and blend the mixture for 5 seconds. Form the mixture into 3/4 inch balls, pressing each candy firmly into shape. Sift confectioner's sugar into a bowl and roll the sugar plums in the sugar to coat them evenly. Store in an airtight container. They can be kept for up to 2 weeks at room temperature or can be frozen for several months.

I'd only read about them IN The Night Before Christmas. I thought they were an oldfashioned recipe and maybe no one even made them any more.
They sound delicious! Good Luck and have fun.

This has sure been a week to learn new things. Thanks to this question, I now know that there really are sugar plums (and how to make them, thanks to Diane).... and that turtle doves are real, too, because suddenly I have them coming to my back yard!

Good luck making them and I'm they'll be a big hit!
