They were probably at one time very open about things. They let people know everything, without giving it a second thought. But then somewhere something went wrong. Someone used that persons trust in the world against them. They didn't want to give anyone another chance to hurt them, so they never let anyone into there life again.

Hmmm my friend and I were just talking about this the other day on the phone! Some people do it to cover up lies they tell because they are insecure and they create a persona to cover up who they really are. They fear that if someone gets to know them for who they really are- they will be rejected. . Like people on line who pretend to be something they arent. They cant even keep up with the lies they tell .It is sad!

i used to be secretive and private because i trusted no one. i realized life was boring not letting anyone know anything about you and sometimes you scare people when you have too much mystery

I know with me it is trust issues, I have been hurt so many times by people I have trusted to tell things to that I am afraid to do it anymore!!

Besides trust, maybe they just don't feel comfortable in sharing info since they're not used to that type of thing.

one good reason is they dont want others to know who they really are and they are afraid they might end up as the talk of the town

Paranoia or schizophrenia, some kind of mental illness. Drugs will to that to a person.
