I'm going to be traveling from Charlotte, NC to Washington D.C. Does anyone have an idea of which day traffic will be lighter? Thank you!

Worse on NYE
It is dark and a lot more people have been drinking.
On New Years Day most all of the party goers are either sleeping it off or are moving slowly and being very quite.
Go early in the morning. Those on the road will be like yourself.
