Healthy Nationalism is Devotion to the interests or culture of one's nation.

Patriotism is the Love of and devotion to one's country.

A Nation is A relatively large group of people organized under a single, usually independent government; a country.

A Country is a Nation or State.

Easy to get confusion out of it.

Nationalists however usually has an emphasis on Government Independence and loyalty to that Government Independence.

Patriotism can be neutral from Government and have more emphasis on Country Culture.

Patriotism isn't isolationism and Nationalism isn't superiority by definition. Healthy Nationalism is very good.

Patriotism is a pride in a nation, and nationalism is a cultural movement based upon ethnicity...patriotism is more general because anyone can be patriotic and nationalism is very specific by combining similar people together

One is not more general than the other because they have different meanings which may or may not intersect.

Nationalism is the pride, the feeling and believing in one's own country AS ONE UNITED COUNTRY. In the US, that includes "from sea to shining sea", Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, & Guam. Examples could be that we look up to one President, the Supreme Court of the United States, and our militaries; and that we consider every state when we talk about the US.

Patriotism, however, is the expression of doing and/or giving of myself for the good of my country. An example would be anyone who puts on the uniform and defends the country. It can also be as simple as someone who does something good for the country.

An act of Patriotism that can be disputed as Nationalism was the visit of Hugo Chavez to New York when he berated President Bush. I consider Representative Charlie Rangel's rebuke to Chavez as an act of patriotism because ANOTHER COUNTRY was involved. Had Chavez been a governor of a state and Rep Rangel rebuked him, then it could be an act of nationalism.

(Note) After Chavez statements berating President Bush, Rep Rangel issued a statement chastising Chavez; saying "You don't come into my district (of New York) and berate my president"

Hope this helps.....

The word "Nazi" is the phonetic spelling of the first two syllables of the German word "Nationalismus" - or "nationalism". (Collins English Dictionary) Patriotism, on the other hand, is a healthy devotion to one's own country.
