Yes. Absolutely. I believe this must be the next step in our evolution, although the emotional component is just a part of the step.

A long time in the future, maybe. However, we have not moved very far since the Greek parables. I would expect an elite few will be able to control and perhaps manage their own emotions. They will be limited in managing the emotions of other people, and it is other people that cause all the distress.

Yes in the future? mmmm I`m not sure if you mean in the future as a whole, you know like in millions of years. I would have to say though in the shorter term, as in when we get older, like in our personal future yes we do learn if we allow our selves to, to handle our psyche. it`s called growing up. This evolutionary weakness may indeed be brought under control if we find away to allow those who are younger to learn from the experience of time. If indeed it is a weakness that is. Indeed it may well be a strength, to feel the `inept` or to feel the incredible hurt when things go wrong indeed may be our cue to learn from the experience in order to survive the plight of futility in the future.

Well, take a look at what has happened in just the last 10 years with regards to how people are more unstable than ever before.
What is the reason? I think much has to do with the lack of responsibility, lack of morals, depending on quick fixes, doctors prescribing antidepressants like candy, etc.
We are heading down hill fast.

only if doing so will help us survive
consider this, women instinctively are attracted to men who seem capable of taking care of themselves, muscular, solid, tall, all their teeth, shiny hair, good health, etc, (we can over-ride our instincts in favor of other qualities, so don't despair, I am talking about on a subconcious level that none of us can change,) but sadly, those type *he-men* men are not usually the smartest, most conscientious, caring, romantic, etc, types of guys, they make good soldiers, cops, firemen, athletes, but not very good marriage material
handling our 'psyches' is much more complicated than just getting smarter, we have to figure out how to turn off our inner triggers that are hard-wired into our nervous systems
that will help us more than anything else

Frankly, I think the human race will have died out long before we have the chance to significantly evolve any more.
