As Bill Clinton crisscrosses America defending his wife's candidacy, he's fueling speculation about who'd be in charge should Hillary be elected. Sen. Clinton - the incredible shrinking candidate - seems at times almost a bystander at her husband's campaign, merely playing a somewhat more active role than she did in '92.
At first, his appearances were novel and politically helpful. But then they came to underscore her weakness. It was as if Dennis Thatcher had stood up for Maggie as she faced down the Argentine junta in the Falklands war. Now, Bill's oversized presence on the national stage raises an even more profound question: Is he using his wife's candidacy to seek a third term in office, prohibited him by the 22nd Amendment?

You have it nailed. His third term would be through Hillary, with Bill as Secretary of State, as a very high probability!

Bill would be the one delegating, not Hillary. He is the intellectual, she is not.

As I can see your question displays so much truth, when you say defending, rather than supporting.

His presence absolutely underscores her weakness. It seems every time the polls slip or she miss speaks up pops
Bill like a Jack in the Box.

Hillary mimics everything Bill says or stands for, and when she gets it wrong, Bill shows up to "charm" the crowds.

It would be funny, if the run for the presidency was not a seriously important event. People really need to do their homework before falling for any candidates so obvious ploys.

Since Republicans started taking office Americas dropped from the greatest country in the world to the most segregated. At this point it should be the states of America instead of the united states. Obama's trying to help fix America but its not enough when the Republicans keep turning down his bills. He hasn't been able to pass anything because Republicans are crybabies. 15 years ago they were respectable but even Republicans mention how the quality of Republicans have dropped and they prove it in there own electoral campaigns. Just my views on how Obama is someone America needs right now.

If she thinks everyone is being mean, being overly scrutizned or treated unfairly now, she AINT SEEN NOTHIN YET!!! Just wait until she were to get nominated. Then watch the avalanche of criticism come down on her like a ton of bricks and rightly so. There is nobody running now more stooped in scandal, disapproval, and unaccomplishment as her.

Its pretty much correct, he is doing more campaigning than Hillary, yes, if god forbid she gets in, Bill is the real force and will be the power, Hillary is just the figure head puppet of Bill, more people would vote for her because of Bill than vote for her without him, those people truly believe they are getting two for the price of one

Boy what a history making election 08 will be, so many firsts if President Clinton was to run it would be another 1st. The 22nd amendment only limits the US President to serve 2 consecutive terms, he would be the 1st President to make a run.

Anyone who thinks that if Hillary were elected she would not use Bill as a crutch, and secretly let him run things, is lying to themselves. I think he would have a "third term" of sorts behind the scenes.

Exactly. People need to be mindful of that old saying -

"..and two shall become one."

It should be illegal for a married couple to each hold the office of the presidency.

This is all absolutely ridiculous.

I think the man should need an invite before ever entering our Oval Office again and I'm not inclined to extend one to him.

Did Daddy Bush seek his way back into world politics by helping his idiot son get elected? Can ultra conservatives ever come up with anything beside innuendos to make a point? Who was it that had his lawyers look into the possibility of suspending the election?.....Oh yea, that was Dubya. Can you imagine that?....suspend the right of the people to vote.....

I guess because one Clinton was President that means the other one can't be... well maybe that's how it should be, but this little thing called the Constitution gets in the way.

But maybe Newt was right, the Constitution is out of date?

Hillary has been in charge from the first day. Hillary wears the pants in the family and Bill wears the interns.

Hillary is in charge, not going to be elected, but in charge.

Just because Hillary was the president's wife does not qualify her be our next president. I will not be voting for her because I don't agree with what she is standing for.
