ok thats what happened when we tumble dried school trousers.
what we did and it worked was
get them wet again and wring them out a bit. (its fun too) get someone to hold one end of them and someone else to grab the other end. both of you pull hard as you can on each end (also a game of strength). keep doing that for about 5 minutes then dry them and do the same again for 5 minutes they should be at there normal size. good luck and have fun :-)

You need to wet them....and then put them on and wear them until they dry...they don't need to be sopping, damp is fine. If the length shrunk, not a lot is going to help you. If it's just a bit of stretching they need you will be all set. My guess is not that the washing machine shrunk them....it's that you put them in the dryer. You should hang them to dry.

You can unshrink them a little if you soak them in one to two cups of White Vinegar for about five to six hours in warm water then remove and stretch them out by hand like tugging on a rope action then dry in dryer on lowest setting for about twenty minutes or just until just damp and then wear them to allow the fabric to stretch out again this should return them to their original size before shrinking in the dryer Good Luck !

Wear them wet. Seriously, put them on damp or put them on and dampen the tightest areas. Wear them until dry.
