You can bring in the sectarian violence if you want, but the colonies also had their own differences, no? Yet, I would think this simple comparison would give reason why things should be left alone in the region, period. If someone wanted to take over your house or worse, your country...wouldn't you fight tooth and nail today to defend it? Has ANYONE in government tried to look at such an approach and sum up why its useless...sure, we gotta fight terrorism, but haven't more people been killed by cigarettes, cancer and AIDS? Where's the billions of dollars and nationalism over that stuff? Since 9-11, how many US citizen civilians have actually been killed by a terrorist act that didn't want to be in such a situation (Haliburton employees, missionaries)?
Sure, I hear everyone say this stuff about Bin Laden and how we wanna catch him...but on what grounds? Bad film editing? Are people in the United States so naive and mentally flimsy? We should be on the White House lawn!

Hey RICK, thanks for your casting couch read for the role of Col. Nathan R. Jessep. I'll be sure to write to Rob Reiner and tell him its you and not Jack Nicholson who is best for the role if they make a sequel.
Your points are valid though RICK, though grandiose...and last I checked, you're out there risking your life because you WANT to do it, not because you have to...thanks for not answering my question and giving me an impulsive emotional response.
By the way, didn't the British soldiers call George Washington and the colonists "rebels". Too bad you fear book more than a drill seargeant. PEACE

Every Iraqi has the right to defend their home and land against the illegal invasion of their homeland. If that means killing every foreign person in their country, So be it. They have no right what so ever to be there..
As to rick well he need to read up a bit on his history. The hundreds of years of war over a few acres of sand have been the result of western interferance, all the way back past the Romans, to the Greeks, 350 BC.
The war in Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism or 9/11, that excuss is only the latest.
If Saddam was the problem (not for nationalising oil, which he did) but for murdering his opposition, then I am quite sure the CIA could have taken him out, as they have many others.
Then there would be no need to protect oil fields and hand out a few sweets to kids. They would still have their own, and clean running water and food on their tables, and safe roads to drive, Without the risk that some American employed freelance soldier,(security worker) will use them for target practice.
I too have served in my day and have witnessed first hand the atrocities some soldiers commit..!!

Not really. Theoriginal gov't of Iraq was shut down but the invasion. Now is the job of rebuilding. Instead of coming together and making a gov't and then asking the US and others to leave and getting on with creating a better nation than before they are fighting each other and making things really hard to do this. So acheiving a reasonable solution has eluded the Iraqi people due to too many differences.
Under the old gov't a minority ran everything and controlled with a iron fist. Now they have an opportunity to totally change and the old rulers are afraid the majority group will make them pay for years of oppression. Also you now have a thrid group that has wanted independance for years now pushing even harder for it. This would cause a small problem and make the country even smaller.
The majority do want a change and for the better but too many are fighting against the new ideas, afraid of what the future holds. It is hard to convince everyone to just get on with rebuilding the country and make everyone a part of the new idea and structure.
For example no one has formed a political party that crosses the spectrum of representatives from all areas and this has to happen before people will realize that there can be one nation representative of all.

People watch the TV news and do not think. They do not have a clue as to who we are fighting in Iraq and seem to think that if we walked away from Iraq then the people we are fighting will leave us alone over here. Then when the next 9/11 occurs over here they will be blaming us for not protecting them - because we did what they wanted instead of what needed to be done.

LOL!! "haven't more people been killed by cigarettes, cancer and AIDS?" yeah, have the above mentioned killed 2996
people within a 3 hour time span? does the Cigarette company threaten to blow up every country who won't abide by their religious beliefs which may I add are supposedly based on Love and Kindness? So you're suggesting that we drop the Iraq campaing, come back home, and wait to get blown up again? yeah makes perfect sense. On what grounds do you base your idea that we are not doing anything out here but wasting money? It's my fourth time here in Iraq and i'm sure you're a mature college student who thinks he can finally see the world and the U.S. for what it is, according to you. Sorry! not a chance, I have been part of over 235 Humanitarian missions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kyrgystan, Uzbekistan, Kuwait, Djibouti Africa, Jordan, and many others. What can you say about that? you think all we are doing is waging wars out here 24/7? please get some facts before you start pushing your arrogant but naive selfrighteous point of view on the Iraq campaign and the way the U.S. spends their money. "We should be on the white house lawn"? yeah but where are you? on yahoo answers not doing a damn thing about anything but complaining. Yes there was a savage and violent struggle with in the colonies of "1776" how long ago was that? How long has the Middle east been in savages wars over acres of nothing but sand? HUNDREDS and HUNDREDS of years!!!! and they still can't get their Sh!t straight! They promote such a message of love and peace but is that what they are doing? (Not everyone in the middle East is a terrorist by the way) Nope! Also the reason U.S. citizens are killed out here is because we have the guts and will to do something others only complain and moan about. No one is trying to take over the Middle East, It just so happens that we have Moron of a president who will be out of office soon and pretty t much put us Soldiers in a tight spot.Let me leave you with this, next time you feel like complaining about something you are willing to do nothing about, realize that you have that right and aren't getting shot in a soccer field by saddam's militia because people like me come out here and do what little we can to help the people and attempt to stabilize these countries, Even if CCN and Fox news decides not to show you this. I assure you, It's happening. Tomorrow when I leave Camp I will thank you and your family for paying your taxes, because your Taxes are what payed for my Body Armor, Kevlar(helmet) and all sorts of Meds and Humanitarian Aid supplies that will make some people smile..

The loss of one American life to terrorism is enough for a full scale retaliatory strike without prejudice.
Your analogy is severly flawed in that the colonies were fighting for their independence, as where Iraqi's would never have been able to lose their imprisonment from Saddam's dictatorship without American intervention.
Liberal propaganda such as yours belies the fact that most Iraqi's are glad we are there, and that they have been liberated from Saddam.
It's time the world is rid of terrorism, and if no one else will do it, we will. Regardless of what the sniffling minority such as yourself say.

You've got to be kidding us. Right? where do you get off stating the Iraqi's are "defending their homelands" what a crock. They aren't even the ones fighting, it's the rebels my friend. Most have been proven to be from Saudi and Jordan, Lebanon, etc.
