Once upon a time -- because when else would it have happened? -- a boy named Joe Weston* readied himself to play in an important Little League game. It was a night game, and after practicing much of the day, he was ready to whoop some butt!

Joe was a talented athlete, but as he was at 13, the age of voice changes and growth spurts, he looked sort of awkward and gangly. Already 5'9, his teammates called him 'Spider' for the way his long arms dangled and his spindly legs folded beneath him when he sat down. He really did look a bit like a spider, in that sense.

In spite of his height, his sprinkling of acne, and thick pair of glasses, Joe was a confident kid. He loved to make people laugh, and he was secure in his ability to do so, stranger or friend. He was outgoing & affable. The coach loved him, his teammates loved him, and he was a favorite of the fans. Joe was a popular guy!

This particular night, his parents were there to watch him play, as they always were, as well as his three little sisters. His youngest sibling, Amber, was an infant, so she stayed in Mrs. Weston's arms or her baby seat for the duration of these games, but his other sisters -- seven-year-old Jenna and ten-year-old Mandie -- were allowed to run around the adjacent playground with some of the other players' siblings while their parents watched the game.

One of the older kids in this regular group, Brittany, was a bit of a brat, and very bossy to the other children. She was twelve & thought she knew everything, so most of the little kids steered clear of her. But Mandie and Jenna had been taught by their parents to be friendly to EVERYONE, & not to exclude others when playing in a group.

"You wouldn't want kids to call -you- bossy & not let you play with them, would you?" Mrs. Weston had asked her girls when they first began going to Joe's games. "I know Brittany can be a bit... difficult, but she needs friends, too."

So Mandie and Jenna allowed her to play with them. This particular baseball game was running long, & the other kids had gotten bored with the slides & swings & gone back to sit with their parents. But Brittany asked (or demanded, rather) in a deceptively sweet tone, that the two little girls stay & play with her.

"Nah. We're tired. I think we're just gonna go watch the rest of the game," Mandie told her.

"C'mon, you guys! If you go sit down in the bleachers, I'll be left all alone again!" Brittany pleaded. Her lower lip jutted out in a sad pout.

For friends of Mandie and Jenna, who were soft-hearted and compassionate, a pout like that was a powerful weapon, and Brittany knew this. But the girls WERE really tired after all that running around, and Mandie still hesitated. She didn't want to desert her friend... But the playground equipment was so BORING by now!

As if she could read her mind, Brittany suggested ditching the playground. "We don't have to stay here... We can take a walk or something!"

Mandie sighed. This kid was not going to take no for an answer, it seemed. Then she recalled their father telling them that Brittany was an only child, and that she must get very lonely.

"You girls are very lucky, I hope you know," he had said at breakfast one day. "Not everyone has a built-in best friend like the two of you."

Remembering this, Mandie relented. "Sure, Britt. Just let me go bring Jenna over to my parents. She's about to fall asleep standing up."

After Mandie returned from delivering her sister, the two girls began to walk. They weren't supposed to go wandering away from the playground like this, but Brittany had never liked being told what to do, and Mandie, stickler for rules though she was, was BORED! She hated disobeying her parents, but she would be right there behind the bleachers where they sat. She reasoned that it was close enough to them that she couldn't possibly get in trouble. Just because her parents couldn't SEE her back there didn't mean she wasn't right there with them...

Walking alongside the chain-link fence that enclosed the playing field, the girls kicked at rocks, looked for gross bugs, and told each other jokes. They soon came across a metal box standing near the gate to the field. There was a key sticking out on one side, turned sideways.

"Hey, I know what this is!" Brittany exclaimed excitedly. "I dare you to turn it!" Her eyes sparkled with mischief.

"Why? What is it?" Mandie asked, curious.

"Ohhh nothing important," Brittany replied mysteriously. "Besides, it won't hurt anything just to turn a key!"

It didn't look like any keyhole Mandie had seen before, really. It wasn't part of a door or anything like that... What did it open?

"Go on," the older girl urged. "Turn it! It's harmless!"

Brittany had a point, Mandie thought. After all, if it didn't open anything, how could it possibly hurt to just turn a key?

She reached out her hand to do it. Her friend gasped, then giggled. "You're really going to??"

Mandie shrugged and nodded. She grasped the key in her hand, and turned...

...and the entire playing field went dark! A collective gasp went up from the crowd, and from the bleachers one of the parents muttered a word that Mandie wasn't allowed to say. She heard Brittany running away from where she stood in the dark, and heard other, heavier footsteps approaching just as quickly.

A flashlight suddenly glared into her eyes. "What's going on here??" It was the security guard from the park.
"I-I-I don't know," Mandie stammered in confusion. "Why did all the lights go out?"

"You turn this key, kid?"

Mandie started to shake her head, then nodded miserably. She wasn't about to lie.

"Then that's why. What are your parents' names?"

She began to cry.

*****

Later, sitting in the dark car on the ride home, Mandie looked over at her brother. There was just enough light from the streetlamps they drove past to illuminate his face. He stared stonily ahead, refusing to look at her, though he surely felt her gaze.

Mandie silently berated herself again for what she had done, then said to her parents up front, "Mom? Dad? You still love me, don't you?" Her voice wavered and her little chin trembled.

"Of course! Sweetie, why would you even ask such a thing??" Her mom sounded genuinely surprised, but to Mandie, it was an obvious question.

"Well, Joe doesn't! He said he's never going to forgive me!" She broke down in tears for the second time that night, the excitement and humiliation of the past few hours catching up to her.

"You ruined my game!" Joe cried angrily. "We were about to win, and now thanks to YOU turning off the stupid lights at a crucial moment, we have to replay it!"

"I didn't know! Brittany told me-"

Her dad broke in. "Kids, calm down. Joe will forgive you, honey. He's just upset about his baseball game. He knows you didn't mean to do it."

Mandie saw her brother shake his head almost imperceptively. He glared at her, then turned away.

In the front seat, Mr. and Mrs. Weston exchanged amused glances. As awful as they felt for their son for having his game disrupted, and for their daughter for her innocent mistake, they knew it would ultimately be just one learning experience among many. And really -- who would have ever expected Little Miss Obedience to turn off the lights at a baseball game?

Mr. Weston shook his head and chuckled to himself, careful not to let the kids see his amusement.

*****

That night, they each learned a valuable lesson: Mr. & Mrs. Weston, to keep a better eye on their kids; Joe, that no matter how popular you are, if your kid sister turns out the lights, your teammates WILL be furious with you (even if it's not your fault!); Mandie, that some people will pretend to be your friend but won't hesitate to run away when there's trouble...

And little Jenna? Jenna learned not to sleep through the good stuff!

One time (a few years ago),while working at a hotel, I called the cops because this guy exposed himself to me and started making obscene gestures. Of course he had taken off by the time the police arrived and then I found out that he had done this to several other hotel workers in the area. Creepy, scary, awkward and embarrassing but definitely not sexy. Yuck!

If you want to write a story written by someone else without giving them credit that is plagiarism. And since this is for a competition you would probably be disqualified anyway for using a part of someone elses work. Close your eyes, go to sleep and then write about whatever you dream if you're that hard up.

Push it out, fake a smile, avert disaster just in time.
I need a drink cause in a while, worthless answers from friends of mine.

It's dumb to ask cool to ignore, girls posses me but they're never mine.
I made my entrance, avoided hazard, check my engine, I fell behind.

Lost the words, lost my nerve, lost the girl, left the line
I would wish upon a star, but that star it doesn't shine
So read my book with a boring ending
A short story of a lonely guy

This did not happen to me long ago. I was at an adult doctor's office for the first time and they decided to get my blood checked. I thought they were going to prick my finger. So, being used to getting my finger pricked, I calmly entered. I saw a support and asked why. The nurse said that some people pass out. I said that I wouldn't pass out. Then, dad told me what they were really doing. So, I got up. Everything was woozy, I was dizzy, and cold, and, guess what... Yep, I passed out. I was suprised they didn't get my blood then and there!

Here's one! My friend and her family met Daniel Radcliffe in New York the day after the Goblet Of Fire Premiere. Always touches my heart..sigh.

They saw him and his parents leaving their hotel on the way to the airport, and they wouldn't have noticed them, hadn't it been for Marcia's BIG RED Handbag! :) So my friend didn't want to scare him, or have him think that she was some over zealous fan, so she just lightly tapped him on the shoulder, and said "Dan? well, he turned around and flashed her..HIS SMILE! HA! Got ya there! :D So then they started talking to him for 15 minutes! And of course they got to HUG Him, and she said that he squeezes really tight! She described it as a bone crushing bear hug! Her son Brandon was fascinated by his limo, so he let him sit in his Limo while the "Adults' talked.

She was telling him how her daughter's first word was "Harry" and he blushed and got excited and said "AWWWWWWW...Really??!!"
and then, THIS always brings tears to my eyes! ...her daughter was crying her eyes out all morning because she didn't get to meet Emma, Her favorite...but she settled for Daniel! ...SIGH...he knelt down in front of her, hugged her tight and rubbed the back of her head in a great effort to comfort her..well, she just pressed her little face into his chest and squeezed really tight! LOL...So his mother, smiled at my friend, and the whole scene just made them both want to cry! Daniel is so good with kids. His father is really down to earth and easy to talk to. They talke about a movie that he was in a long time ago. Eveything was unrushed, and casual, and friendly. And it was the best 10 minutes of their life! I just love that about him, don't you? He's so kind, and he took the time to stop and talk, even though he was on his way to the airport...sigh.

So they came home with VERY Precious memories...and a Hug to remember... :)
Hope you enjoyed!

I arrived at the building where i work and realized that I forgot to take my entrance-pass with me. So i went back to the car.
It was cold, i wear a balaclava and shawl. When i walked back i met , in front of the social security office ( that is where less fortunate people get their money ) a collegue. I greeted him , but he was scared of me because of the balaclava and jumped site wards.

( the end )

Angel wasn't too fond of the situation she was in, sitting upon her pedestal, giving out orders to the general passer-by, so she said to herself she'd leave. With a whoosh and a step she popped off her marble and now no one knows where our Angel has fallen.
