There is a sub question here:

What do you mean by equal?

If you mean 'does our society give us equal opportunity to succeed?' then the answer is very obviously 'NO!'

If you mean 'are we all born with the ability to succeed if we had the opportunities?' then the answer is definitely Yes.

So what is the difference. It is the need of the society. In a society which needs to be defended then it is the natural born soldier who will be the the top dog. If it is bridges then the builder will be the one.

Is it so that we are, though, born with gifts. The answer is both yes and no. We are all born with potential however it is our environment (and our education) which makes us. Motzet was born with a very good ability - however if he had not had a great musician and composer for a dad it would have never been developed as it was.

I was born with a keen academic mind but a problem with my reading and writing plus also being born into a working class family led to me not being able until late in life- to use my skills.

If you really think we are all this thing you call "human being", then to exactly that extent, and perhaps ONLY to that extent, we are born the same. We are the same, to that extent, which is the proper meaning, by the way, of "equal". So yes, it is obvious, if you believe that we are all the same in even just that way, that we are all "equal" in that way. We are all equally "human". But, a retard and a genius are not equal in intelligence. Sorry, no dice there. So the real question is, what is the meaning of being equal AS being equally human? It means, having a psyche, a mind, a spirit, a soul. We all are ourselves to that extent, and not someone else. In this way, we are all "equally unique". This is also the only way that I can imagine treating all people "equally". They all have some basic core sameness in the soul, that feels good if it is treated nicely and bad if it is treated meanly. So, be nice. :P

The ideal of equality among all persons is one of "justice", that is equal under the eyes of the law and does not pertain to physical equalities which is obvious when one looks at the Olympic athletes and a person born with a physical disability or someone like Albert Einstien or Stephen Hawking and then meeting someone who is developmentaly disabled.

Unfortunately, equla under the eyes of the law has not played out as any too true either. One has only to look through history of any nation to see the disparity in this as well.

In the USofA remember that native americans were not even considered as being human until the late 1880s, the continuing civil rights efforts (which are much needed) show how persons of various races are not seen as equal.

Equality is a wonderufl ideal but it has never been a reality.

there is no real answer to this question before there was this concept some people were considered worthless if you lived back then you might be asking are all human beings born unequal or is this a concept we've been taught to believe

No, this is just a concept we've been thaught to believe. Each and every one is born with the same rights but it stops there.

Do you think that the son of a president and the son of a pheasent born are born and will have the same priviledges, opportunities and wealth? That leaves you with the answer you were searching for.

if your definition of being equal is in status, social and physical level then human beings are not born equal same as life is not always fair. even logic and the capacity to reason is not equally distributed to each person .

you are born to your family. your family could have been the Hilton family, then you'd be filthy rich. your family could have been a family that lives in Iraq, then you'd be in great danger. if you were born in turkey, you'd probably be a Muslim. if you were born in Germany, you'd probably be a christian. so yeah, it is a taught concept, definitely.
