All suggestions are going to be premature and random, unless you specify the area of your interest and your background knowledge. You ought to talk it over your adviser whether she/he would be able to guide on a particular topic, if what you are talking about relates to PhD degree. Your adviser ought to be the person to discuss the feasibility of a topic. There could be hundreds of topics. But the main concern is whether you can manage and whether you have the expertise and interest in the subject. Any subject foisted on you may turn out to be a boring and unmanageable exercise.
On the net you may find answers on this ranging from the sublime to the absurdity and there would be voters who vote for a nonsensical topic which you may not be able to handle.

A thesis? For an advanced degree?

Preferably something relevant to your background and interests. And lucky you if you get to choose the topic. In my experience, a thesis is usually tailored to the program and advisor. If you're already in a grad program, it would be helpful if you told us what the program is -- something a little more specific than biology. If you're not in a grad program yet, it's time for you to sit down and do some serious thinking. Don't trust strangers to tell you how to live your life.
