Because it's NOT 10 months
1 month generally equates to 4.333 weeks (approx) ie 52/12
Therefore 40 weeks = 9.25 months
Also as pregnancy timing is counted from PREVIOUS period, NOT conception, really at least 1 weeek SHOULD be removed, so 9 months from sex to bitrh is pretty darned close

Because there is a 4 weeks and 2 or 3 days (30 or 31 days) in each month not just a straight 4 weeks. The only month with exactly 4 weeks is February (28 days) so it works out to a little over 9 months. Try using calendar months instead of 4 week months

A pregnancy isn't 10mths its only 9 and a bit. Each month doesn't have exactly 4 weeks so it can't be 10mths.
If you were to go overdue by 2+ weeks you would have been pregnant for 10mths.
Or if you take out the first 2 weeks out of the 40, when technically you aren't actially carrying a fetus, then it would be nearly spot on 9mths. (if you deliver at due or within a day or two)
I just don't think of pregnancy in months anymore, its too hard. Just stick to weeks and its easier

no. it is 9 full months. like...day 1 of your pregnancy you are in your first month but you aren't 1 month pregnant yet. you can only say that when you get to day 1 of month 2 and so on...you go through to about the end of month 9. the 40 weeks is divided into 9 months. if you were pregnant for 10 months, you would be pregnant until the first day of month 11, but you are pregnant (theoretically) until the first day of month 10.

Because not every month has just 4 weeks. Some have 5. So it really is 9 months.

40 weeks is 10 Lunar monthsof 28 days each. Now that would be cool if you were calculating according to the Muslim Calendar but if you are using the gregorian calendar (Jan-Dec) there are a few days added on. that makes it only nine calendar months in total

It's 9 full months. 40 weeks is not 10 full months, it is only the beginning of the 10th month.

Actually a typical pregnancy lasts 38 weeks. Docs add two weeks by calculating the time from the beginning of the last period.

It's best to forget all the confusion that comes from trying to deal with months and weeks.
The gestation period for humans is 266 days. Just use that.....
