I work at a dept. store where we sell towels among other things and the manufacturer of the towels suggested NOT using liquid fabric softner on ANY towels... It leaves a film that coats the towel and it doesn't dry as well. They suggest using baking soda to soften towels and brighten the fabric.. It's cheap and easy to find plus people with sensitive skin won't break out...

Add some baking soda to your wash water to soften it a bit. Use a liquid fabric softener in the rinse cycle instead of a dryer sheet.
