Spooky! I have just found out i'm 5 weeks pregnant, my last period was 25th November too! I have started taking folic acid today. Recommendations are to take it 3 months prior to pregnancy and for 1st 12 weeks of pregnancy. I am going to take it for next 7 weeks - everything helps! Good luck & congrats xx

Congrats on being pregnant. I guess you'll be welcoming a beautiful baby boy or girl on the 1st of August 2008.

Ideally, Folic Acid supplements should be taken prior to conception, but if not, then certainly in the first trimester. 400mcg per day is the recommended dosage according to the link below.

When I had my first son 19 years ago, I craved Brussel Sprouts and ate them by the bowl full for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 3 months straight. I can't bear to look at them now! I only found out recently that brussel sprouts are loaded with a natural source of folic acid.

yes if your last period as 25th november then you will be exactly 5weeks tommorrow. also yes start taking folic acid straight away, it helps to prevent your child from having a neural tube defect (spinabifida etc). you can actually take it when you are trying to become pregnant so there is no time that is too early to start taking it. start now and keep taking it until you are past the 3 month mark.

yes you are 5 weeks tomorrow and you should hop down to the chemist asap for some folic acid tablets or a general pregnancy multivitamin that includes folate.
They are all available over the counter, you don't need to see a doctor first.

It's good to take it now and up to 13 weeks, but do check your dosage carefully.

Aside from making sure you get a healthy, balanced diet without processed food, sugar or trans fats, you should talk to your doctor about the best way to support your baby nutritionally. Some supplements are safe at the right dosage or in the right combination, but less so when you take too much or combine the wrong things.

Have a wonderful pregnancy and a beautiful healthy child.

You should definetly begin taking em' along with vitamin pills, it helps your body break down the folic acid, see a doctor asap, early prenatals is better for you and your baby.

Negatives for not taking the pills......If your diet doesn't include the essential iron and vitamins, you wouldn't be replacing the nutrients that your baby is taking from you.

you should take folic acid before you fall pregnant (obviously its a bit hard if you didnt plan it) but its a good idea to start now!

congratulations by the way!
