Seem to remember Xmas being the time of the Izal Comb Orchestra. Guess it had to be a working class thing, doubt it went on up the Manor House much.

Blimey, still on sale? Wonder what their share of the market is?

Diamond, I'd forgotten using it as tracing paper, remember doing it myself now.

I learned to make music with a comb and a piece of paper at Indianapolis Public School 10 when I was a first grader. I teach every little kid I get to spend any time with, because I hear that's not being done these days. (That old fashioned skill has apparently gone the way of penmanship and times tables.) Some things are too good to lose. My dad played a harmonica and I loved the sound of it.

Some of the public bathrooms still have that hard toilet paper. But I had forgotten all about playing the comb and I should teach that to my 11 year old.

Izal is still available in many larger supermarkets although why anyone would wish to buy it is a mystery! As for playing the comb, I agree it is a dying past-time.

My hubby plays the comb sometimes, but he uses the greaseproof paper you buy to use in the kitchen. Same texture as Izal and you get more for your money.

Nothing much to add, but thanks for the trip down Memory Lane. My Dad was a Whiz on the comb and the spoons. Me, I can't get a tune out of anything, not even my aerosol!! I remember my son at 6 years old trying to emulate Grandad, blowing so hard on the comb and paper that HE made a tune with his aerosol!!! Those were the days. Aah, ho hum.

Yes, I thought the comb orchestra was long gone. Good to see that there are a few about, still.
Those were the days, playing the comb, and the washboard, and the saw.
