Well, I work with smaller contact animals, like Rats, Mice, Ferrets, Rabbits, Hedghogs, Sheep, Goats, and Reptiles like Lizards, Snakes, Tortuses.... Goats and Sheep probably wouldn't be a good idea to try and keep in your room! LOL! So what about a rabbit, or a reptile of some kind... Like a Bearded Dragon Lizard...
My cousin is 9 and has a few Knolls, which are a small lizard no bigger than a mouse and they're real cool!!! It all depends on your parents' restrictions to pets, and ability of care, and space....
But if your looking for a small pet for your room... Hermit Crabs are fun too!! I used to have 5 at a time, and I had hamster balls I would let them run around in! It was fun!!! =D Easy to take care of too!!!!
Hope that helps! =) Good luck with your new pet when you can comprimise with your dad! LOL!

some people are repulsed by the thought of having a rodent in the house and the thought of someone actually wanting to take care of such a thing. rats are very cute sweet animals and grow attached and all that but that won't change the stereotypes they face as a species in the same way people feel about pitbulls. he would prefer you to get a traditional animal like cat, dog, or fish. you could just wait until you have your own place to get a pet anyway because it would be hard on them to take them with you no matter what the distance so you will be without the pet you so much longed for and built a relationship with already because pets are for life.

if ur dad is totally against u having a rat, then u should try haing a dog or a fish tank.dogs needs so much of care and concern, they have to be looked after really good for six months, and will make a cute, cuddly pet.If u want an aquarium start with two fishes to make sure u like it.these two are my choice......ALL THE BEST FOR UR NEW PET......

have you thought about fish? it can be fun to watch them and decorate your tank, or maybe a frog or a lizard. OR better yet a turttle. My favrot pet is a cat, I have two who are my best friends but I have had lizards in the past and they were very nice too. I woulden't recomend a rodent or a cat or a dog for a first pet, Maybe a Betta fish, they are super easy to take care of and much more reasonable.

A skunk is a good pet choice. You can take them to the vet to get the smell taken out and they are very cute. Just don't find a wild one you can get them on the Internet or at a pet store.

Have you considered hamsters. If you don't like hamsters then go to the pet store and go where the rats are and tell him that they are hamsters, parents are dumb.
If that doesn't work then tell your dad "Ex-quisme but it's My pet and I want MY pet to be a rat so suck it up and deal withit!!!"
Ok?
