I have a toddler and i want to keep the house clean for her. I don't like to keep on reminding him everytime he comes in the house and he get mad when i say something about it. I've talked to him about it many times and he keep on apologising. It bothers me a lot and it would ruin my day. He would stop for a little while after i put up a fight but then he'll do it again... so anybody can help me with this?

I have a similar problem. My husband wears boots that have heavily grooved soles, so he tracks all sorts of stuff in the house and will walk right into the living room and sit down in his recliner and kick back while I watch the junk fall off his boots. It's usually very sloppy. I'm not a gung-ho housekeeper, but there are limits. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I'd like it relatively clean. I put a nice rug (not too nice) in front of his chair so it will catch the drips. I put a boot tray and a chair by the door so he can take his boots off if he wants to (or if I can convince him it's his idea). I got him some slippers and that works for awhile.

I ended up putting a heavy rug on the way into the kitchen to hopefully soak up some of the stuff and then I put a path of rugs where he usually walks. It was either this or have a brown path over the gray carpet (it was in the house when we moved in. My choice would have been dirt brown.) He treats the house like a hunting cabin.

Then I called around for estimates to have the carpets cleaned. After discussing the cost with him, he agreed that slipping his boots off is better than paying to have the carpets cleaned. (And was also cheaper than replacing the carpets.)

Make a special place for him to pull the boots off which is located just inside the door which he first enters.

Have a rug where he can stand on - and where he can leave his boots on. This way - he won't walk the dirty boots throughout the house.

My first thought was to put those dirty, muddy boots on his side of the bed. But that would be uncomfortable for you, too.

And I am assuming that if he's wearing those boots through the house, he's not going to care if you don't clean up the mud at some point.

IF you've talked to him about it, and he still won't comply, I would suggest you find something that irks him, and do that until he gets the big picture.

buy some large hairy mats to place in front of the door to take most of the mud off.

Give him the broom, the mop and the vaccuum to clean up after himself.

Explain to him why it annoys you, and that him stopping is in the best interest for the both of you.

Not enough info. Did he own the house before he met you? Are you untidy in other areas?
