Is there any way I can get rid of these lines from a pair of grey school pants that have previously been taken up? I bought some grey dye but the instructions said it would only work on natural fabrics. I tried permanent marker but that just washed out in the wash. Just making a last ditch attempt before I give up and throw the pants out - at $60 a pop it is worth a try.

the white lines are from wear/fading as they were the original 'bottom' of the pant leg - now that I have unpicked the hem that white line is now 6 inches up from the bottom.

Why not rip out the white stitches and fix the pants with grey thread?

I have had limited success with white vinegar, but not very much. I stopped buying things so large. This eliminated the problem.
