Ok, this just might be the question of the century. Im 16, male, and I have alot of female friends, and I cant stand it when they all call me and dont say a damn thing. Whenever they call me they are normally watching a movie, and I will try for about 10 minutes to start a conversation bring up a good topic, but all they say is "oh" or "haha i know...". Im really tired of it and I need help to find an answer. So basically the question is, why do teen girls call guys and dont say anything? I would really appreciate an honest answer because its waisting my minutes.

At 16, you should know better. You have better things to do than waste your time on a stupid phone just listening to air. Be polite. But, as soon as that behavior, that silence starts, don't wait for a response, don't allow for a response, just say, "Gotta go. Catch you later". Hang-up. Do not take any more calls from that person that evening or day or whatever. That's rude what they're doing to you. Don't bristle at rudeness. Just walk away from it in a dignified way. They sound like they're using you in a way that is unfair.

As for the behavior itself, I've known men and women both who do that. Sometimes it's like a cultural thing. It's done more in some communities than in others. And, I observed it a lot when my father was in the Army. Husbands and wives, or couples, seperated over long distances for long periods of time sometimes just sit there on their phones and don't talk. They just hold on sort of. I had a ladyfriend once who used to call me up after our husbands were watching TV or something in the evening and she'd do what you described, just sort of carry her phone around against her ear, snacking, watering plants, speaking to other people in the room, etc. It troubled me for a while. But, I realized that she was just "being" with me, opening the physical distance between us and spending time with me as though we were chilling together in the same room. I thought that was nice. So, I let her her do it all she wanted.

Hey not all teen girls do that. I'm a teenager and I don't call anyone unless I have a reason too. Obviously your friends have no opinions of their own, and if they do then they need to show them more. Perhaps they find no interest in the stuff you are interested in and have nothing else to say.

I have a teenage daughter and she has a cell phone, which she pays for herself. However, she hardly ever actually calls anyone. She spends nearly all of her time text messaging her friends, including male friends. They seem to like that approach because they always answer back.

well in my opinion they probably like you and even if they are doing something else they wanna hear your voice or wanna talk to you. be flattered that they called you instead of maybe one of their other friends.

sometimes me and my friends will call and talk with eachother about nothing at all but we love eachother and just wanna stay close and in contact.

but if it bothers you then you're probably not a phone person.
just be honest with them and i'm sure if they love you enough they'll stop calling you as much unless they really need to talk to you bout something. =)

Maybe they are waiting for you to ask them out? Or maybe they are just a little shy. A lot of people especially teenagers make the mistake of thinking that the two genders are sooo different, and they think'What on earth could I talk about to a guy??'.

Because they miss your voice or they would like to show that they care.

I called a guy this morning and we hardly talk about anything but I love him and I miss his voice n its been like 6 hours.

So basically its because they like to stay connected you know what I'm saying?

I have the same trouble with men. I usually tell them that I am busy, but if they will call back when they have time to talk, I will make time for them.

They do it because they have nothing better to do. Also, by lolligagging on the phone, you show them that you have nothing better to do, and they lose respect for you. I advise you to end phone calls *the instant* they no longer interest you (or sooner).

A woman who is not talking, is a lonely woman.

Use it to your advantage. Learn early in life how to "motivate" women. Invite her to your home for a "talk session".
