Fresh, crunchy Pink Lady (or Royal Gala) apples...
Apples help to cleanse the liver and intestines. Having a healthy functioning liver and intestines can really help to prevent sorrow and bad moods in the long term. They contain fructose (sugar that can boost feel-good hormone serotonin). They don't contain harmful natural chemicals, except for a moderate amount of salicylates (which can help to pep up your mood, but not send you totally silly, as would be the case if the level of salicylates were high).
Best cure for a bad mood is sleep, really. That's what I usually do when I have problems I feel like I can't solve. Everything feels better (and seems to resolve itself) after a good sleep.

Depending on the level of sorrow
Level one (feelings of discontent): I hug my dog and feel sorry for her. I'm not even sure about anything being wrong
Level two: (agitation): I get up and pace, sometimes I snap at those around me even though they didn't do anything wrong. I go to the fridge, I open the door. I look. I close the door. I wonder if I'm thirsty or need coffee. I'm still not sure about anything being wrong.
Level three: (burning need to shout back) (the only time I get angry) If someone that I perceive is disagreeing with me, or if I think they are attacking me, THAT is when the fallout occurs. When I was a kid, I used to go to my room to sulk. As an adult, I see me doing the same things. I tend to sulk.
Level four: (has only happened once or twice in my lifetime) (Violent anger) The urge to destroy overcomes me. I once went into the closet and bent hangers with my teeth. Another time, I pushed someone into a wall. (It was someone bigger than me) I could not get back to normal for several days.
At times I do indulge myself (at all levels), whether with sweets or with alcohol. With sweets, I tend to eat maybe 4 times what I would normally do. With alcohol: I don't even keep that in my house anymore. My husband uses it like I use candy. He can drink a six pack in less than an hour. So 15 years ago he quit. Can't say that I don't mind. I hate being drunk. It makes me ill.
edit: hey, I think there's a parallel here to tornadoes. I think I left one level out. XD

Neither. Take the bad with the good and move on. Be strong. Sorrow is part of life. It comes and goes. One must be strong within one's self. "Drowning" the sorrows only puts off facing the reality of it. It does not make it go away.
Face it, deal with it and it will pass.

Being diabetic sugar is out and I am only a social drinker. What I might do is go shopping at a 24 hour market and spend a $100 on food that I can eat.

sorrows....for some, just a mention of alcohol or sugar can cause sorrow... that's why I smoke weed. No harsh sugar rush then letdown...no inhibition-less comsumption and suffering for ingestion...Ahh, nothing better than bud. PEACE

Something ELSE... !!! :)
KEEP looking UP... and THINK about what you have to be THANKFUL for... Sometimes that's HARD to do... BUT, if you keep looking UP, you will find that it is hard to pour more beer/booze into your throat! I can't 'speak' to that 'snorting thing', but I KNOW that one can't 'snort' if one's FACE is looking UP!
I guess with the 'sugar-thing', it might be real easy to just 'drop' a little, in whatever form - (M&M's would be EASY) - into an OPEN mouth!!! But... maybe one drops a couple of M&M's into an OPEN, UPLIFTED mouth, and they go back to the windpipe! SOMEONE will be choking!!! And, if there is no-one there to give you the 'hind-lick' (I KNOW that's not spelled right) manuever... ???
Drink a glass of water... (no SUGAR--- no ALCOHOL) -- OK to hold your head in the NORMAL position... But, then again... You might want to 'RAISE' your face, and GIVE THANKS for YOUR will-power!!!
My BEST suggestion:
SHARE the ''BURDEN"... with Family, Friends, or whatever "Higher Power" you believe in! NEITHER 'Alcohol', OR 'Sugar' will 'resolve' your 'sorrows'!
It's up to YOU!!!

I don't want to be a stick in the mud here, but neither and nothing else. I embrace my sorrows. They are as much a part of me as my happiness.

Either sugar...or if there's none to be found, I use the poetry, prayer, or just the tears to take away my sorrow.
