Defeats of such huge margins unfortunately destroy the morale and confidence of the entire team. After that, the players just give up and don't even try in the next test matches.

Such pattern was observed by India when they toured Australia in december of 1999. They lost the 1st test by 180 runs, the second test by 285 runs and the 3rd test was lost by an innings and 137 runs.

West Indies, Pakistan, and many other countries who toured Australia have shown similar patterns -- after 1st huge defeat, they completely give up.

The indian team came with lots of confidence and determintation but now that will not be there in the second test.

What can be done to avoid the Indian team going into a mode of extreme depression and mental drainout against Australia?

Such a defeat will definitely create some psychological impact. But, there is nothing to worry too much about it. There are still 3 Tests left. Indian team should try and analyse the mistakes they did in the 1st Test and ensure that they don't commit such mistakes in the next 3 Tests. "Failure is the stepping stone to success". This will apply to the Indian team as well, and I hope they will bounce back with a vengeance.

The Indian team is to good a team to meekly capitulate again, I think the second test will be closer but Australia to win by 4 wickets.

One would hope so because if they play like they do without psychological in the hopeless fashion there is just a chance that some good shock treatment may make them better~~

They would have to be close relatives of OZ to let that happen! Sportsmen & women must learn how to accept defeat & move on.
