It's do-able ... but hardly worth the effort ... It won't run Vista ... and unless you upgrade to at least 256 MB Ram it will struggle with XP (and that depends on the processor) ...save some pennies and go buy a new lappy

I would recommend you to get a new computer/laptop. If this is not an affordable option, then get new computer parts.

From my experience, certain kinds of RAM are discontinued after computers have been produced. Based on what you say, I won't be surprised if the sort of RAM your computer needs is no longer present in the market or if it is, then it is very expensive. If your RAM is not available in the market, then you will have buy everything once again. This means a new motherboard, a new processor, and RAM to the least. You can use your old hard disk but I won't recommend you to do that.

Also many people don't know that when computers run slow, it is not only because of its RAM but because of its processors. Your processor is very likely to be outdated. And also there are so many applications that are running in the background that you feel your computer is slow when it really isn't. All you have to do is close them and start them when you really need them.

The amount of money you will spend in renewing your whole system so that vista can work on it is equivalent to getting a new cheap computer. I thought the other way would have been cheaper but after my experience of getting everything individually and re making the whole system, I spent just as much money and more effort than a ready made computer.

First, you don't have enough memory to run vista. You also don't have enough hard drive space. There are several other problems with trying to upgrade your current machine,
1) Intel Celeron 500 MHz processor (not fast enough)

2) Maximum RAM 256 MB (2 x 128 MB DIMM) ( not enough)

3) Video Memory 11 MB shared system memory, integrated graphics; not upgradeable ( like it says "Not upgradeable")

Face it, this is pretty much a boat anchor as far as upgrading it to run a current Microsoft operating system. Look for an inexpensive computer. Second hand computers can be cheap and have the ability to be upgraded to suit your needs.
Any money you put into your current computer is a waste. Sorry but that's the way it is.

Good luck

A computer that old will be using a motherboard that will not handle enough RAM to support Vista. Vista will boot up with 1 Gig of ram, but really should never have to use less than 2 Gigs for decent performance. You are best off buying an entirely new computer which would run you about $700 for a Vista oriented setup if you shop around. Or buy a custom made one or used one for less.

Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.
The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:

lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.
Good luck!

honestly, you could get a better computer for the same money you would spend on vista and memory upgrades.

you need to change out so many parts (motherboard, video card, RAM, hard drive....) this will add up big time.

you can get a desktop for around $500 that will do pretty decent. you can get one for as little as 350 that will be better than the one you have now.

Vista will never run on this computer. The 64 mb you speak about is video ram which wouldn't even run the basics of any Vista.

You are better of to purchase a new Computer. You have to have at the least 512 mb ram to operate windows vista. to operate smoothly, yyou will need atleast 1gb of ram. You will also need a large hard drive to set partitions to keep it running fast.

Dont do it bro. Vista is a drive memory hog and some thinks work differently on it. Vista does not have the audio mixer anymore for instance.

Hi. Sorry but you need a much more modern machine to run Vista. I would either buy a new machine or stick with what you have.
