Through speakers? Headphones?

Both, depending on your mood. Most cheaper Headphones, while very clear, keep the sound inside your head. The best ones are Electrostatics ,which give a better image outside your head. They are also the most expensive !

EDIT.....To appreciate the qualities of vinyl, you must have a good Turntable,Tonearm and Cartridge,to extract the maximum information from the record groove. Next ,a high quality Phono Interconnect Cable to carry the tiny signal to the Phono Input of the Pre-Amp,where it is made bigger to be amplified by the Pre-Amplifier,and sent to the Power Amplifier which makes it bigger again so it can travel to the loudspeakers. If the signal is maintained without too much degredation (which happens to all equipment in varying degrees)and the loudspeakers are "neutral" sounding then the final sound will be very good indeed, much better than CD.

Headphones work great! I think if you want it to sound clearer do the head phones!
