Okay, I've been thinking about birth control and my mom thinks it could be a good idea too. But I have no clue where to start. I know talking to a doctor would be a good first step but I want some outside intake. Does anyone have any suggestions to what brand or type would be good for me? Or what I should STAY AWAY from? Im "younger" and just started being sexually active. And i have obviously never been on birth control before. Any suggestions. I would even like risk factors and odds if you have them. Thanks. I would really appreciate anything! :P

It all depends on what is right for you. But if you are going to be sexually active, get on something. There are pills you take daily. There are shots you take every 3 months. Consider an IUD. You may not be eligible, since they are prefered for people who have had kids. But they can last up to 10 years and you not have to do anything.

I loved the Depo shot. A shot every 3 months. I didn't have periods, and never worried about forgetting to take a pill. But it isn't for everybody. Talk to a doctor and see what's right for you.

But just because you are on birth control doesn't mean you should stop using condoms. Just because you are protected against pregnancy doesn't protect you against STDs.

The best is to visit with a doctor for sure; however, usually the lower dose hormones like Yaz are best for the majority of people because they have less side effects than some of the other pills. There are also shots and patches and such. Visit with your doctor and make an informed decision with them as to which is best in your case. (Remember too that even on the pill, it's the best idea to use a backup method, such as a condom)

Get Yaz...It helps alot of things while your on your period. If you break out like most of us women do before our monthly cycle, Yaz helps that, also it helps fatigue and alot of other great benefits. Since your still young and periods are such a drag you'll probably hear about seasonal and seasonique those are basically the same thing they both allow you to have only 4 periods a year. I was on that and my friends mother told me that for being so young (im 16 btw) i shouldnt be on it cause i should have a period and not having a period for so long can screw your body up.. But definitely go for YAZ

This is honestly a question that is best suited for your doctor. There are so many brands out there. Most of them are adjusted to different problems and different hormone variations. No two women are alike so your doctor has to fit you with a brand that properly suits your needs and for your age.

I recommend going to a gynecologist and discussing what would be right for you. If you are going to have sex use birth control and a condom every time. Protect yourself against STDs as well.
