My husband works for the local council, and was expected back at work on Boxing Day, yet there was no real need for him to do so. He used to manage to wangle the day off, but the crafty bosses have now fitted tracking devices on his work's vehicle, so they know exactly where he is, at all times. They have a whole week off themselves, and I think it's pretty mean of them. Anyone agree?

funkyalmond.... read the question mate!!! Who said anything about my husband using his work van for personal use? Would YOU want to travel anywhere in a van used for transporting dog waste, and used sanitary wear, on a personal journey? no neither do we!! We have our own car for personal journeys, thanks.
The tracking devices are purely for checking up on staff, so the bosses don't have to leave the comfort of their own homes to do it! As for being his own boss? Sorry, but we don't all live in a perfect world, otherwise wouldn't we all have our own buisnesses?

I'd be boiling mad like you if my husband couldn't spend time with us at Christmas. Christmas is meant for family's and your husbands bosses certainly qualify as 'Bah Humbugs'. Bob Cratchett only had Christmas day off and that was in the Victorian times! ( yes, I know it is fiction!) Is your husband a member of a union at work? His union rep' should be able to mediate on his behalf and maybe get him more time off over the festive season.

My office officially closed at 5 on the 21st (I was allowed to leave at 3:30 and left at 4:15).

I go back to work on the 2nd January at 9am.

My Dad on the other hand has had since Christmas Eve lunchtime off work through till about the 2nd but has been working from home on some of them days - the days that he was meant to be having off.

I just had xmas off. They probably put a tracking device in the work vehicle, because it's a WORK VEHICLE! If he needs to get around personally he should use his OWN vehicle. As for the extra time off, well I can understand. The only solution to that is to be Self employed. So HE can take the week off and make HIS employees work.
