Please don't claim it's a coincidence, and if you claim that spaniels, labs etc. can KILL (not just bite) children provide proof

Thanks!

No, I don't believe it's time to ban the breeding of rottweilers. The kid was probally agitating the dog or something. It's not the dog's fault, it's his nature as guard dog, why do you think they were bread in the first place?

The only thing I have to say is that I am against getting rid of a whole breed for the acts of a few individuals. That said everytime you have posted about this I noticed that people claim it is the parents fault for leaving the child unattended. Yet, no where in the article does it state the child was unattended. For all we know the parents were right there in the yard too, but the child was a few feet from them and the dog rushed and killed the child by ripping the throat out in under 3 seconds. I'm not saying that's what happened, but neither does the article, so quit calling the parents bad parents when you don't know what happened. Also someone else stated the child was probably asking for it by antagonizing the dog. Excuse me, NO child, especially a one year old, asks for being killed by a dog. If a dog will kill a one year old for pulling it's tail or ear then the dog should have been put down long ago. A dog can easily get up and walk away.

I do think it's wrong to blame the breed, but I also think it's wrong to take it too far the opposite way and blame a one year old or the parents for something that isn't stated. This article in no way tells the whole story.

Absolutely not in most cases like this it was due to poor ownership. Any dog can attack, and when someone that young is attacked sadly in most cases it will result in death. Rottweilers are general a more aggressive breed. These people were probably poor pet owners. If they the child was left unattended it is the adults fault, no child should be left unattended with any dog.

We need to educated people to be a calm-assertive pack leaders, they need to be fully educated when they want a breed (or a dog mixed with that breed) that is more aggressive. Getting a dog is more then just having it around, there is a responsibility that goes far beyond giving food and water.

I volunteer at a animal shelter and have interact with quite a few Rottwilers, German Shepard’s , Dobermans , Chow Chow’s and other breeds (mixes of them) on the so called dangerous dog list, all whom have been loving affection dogs, some just need a firm hand.

Rottweilers are not actually vicious dogs (and I dont even like dogs), the ones that attack are usually owned by people who get them as some sort of status symbol, like to try and look hard. They are often wound up so that they will bark viciously at strangers. These dogs end up vicious and attacking people because they are scared.

Of course Rottweilers are bigger dogs than a spanial or a labrador, so obviously a bit of them is going to do a lot more damage especially to a small child.

I think its wrong to say you have to "train" a dog to be vicious, but I agree it is to do with the way the dog is brought up. But, its my belief a dog like a rottweiler is naturally territorial like akita's etc, both (breeds) could be brought up in a family environment the "correct" way but act in this type of way if they feel there territory has been invaded.
My answer to your question would be no, I think its more an issue of needing stronger laws regarding the ownership and the breeding of dogs of such breeds, (or more effort enforcing the current laws) and how freely available dangerous dogs can be bought.

,Despite what any one says to the contrary these type dogs are +Not+ for domestic properties, too many people have been mauled//killed with vicious dogs such as these
,Of course they are certainly not, the only breed of dog that falls into this category, all dogs who are not on leash should be +muzzled+ and not able to bite. Heavy penalties should be made effective on owners,
Penalties to include jail sentences for less intelligent owners who do not implement this.
How many more of our children are we going to lose before +urgent+ action is taken to deal with this appalling situation.

It's time to require proper licensing of would-be parents to assure that they have the basics of responsible behavior. after all states require a licensing test for virtually every activity, driving, law, accounting, hairdressers, fork lift operators, etc. Why not for having babies as that has the greatest impact on the lives of everyone on this planet including the poor child itself. Children deserve parents who at least know enough to keep them from harm.

Lets ban Rottweilers, lets ban smoking in public, lets ban toy guns and on and on and on.

Do you not see what effect people calling for ban's is having on life.

You are playing right into the hands of the government and the liberals and do gooders who would like nothing better than for you to sit in your house all day long and do nothing.

Dogs were not born vicious they are trained or left alone and they learn this ,I have been around pit bulls who have been raised with caring owners and they were the sweetest dog on the block ' then you take others the same bread that get punched and chained and Left with out human companionship they turn bad; just like any kid or animal that is abused,it;s a learned trate' not one that were or they are born with..

It is not just Rottweillers or Pitt Bulls. All dogs have the ability to kill. It just happens that these breeds of dogs get the most attention and publicity. Yes there may be a few more incidents involving these breeds of dogs, but to ban the breeding of such is rediculous. Maybe make the owners put them through obedience training wouldn't be a bad idea.

Sadly...yes, although many people will call this a knee-jerk reaction, it really is time to look at some of these breeds that were bred to attack. If not then a special license should be brought in for owners of such dogs, with a string of rules to comply with.
