Which is better Athlon 3800+(2.4GHz) VS Athlon X2 3800+(2.0GHz)?

Mainly for gaming, music, videos, video editing, chat etc...

What would your choice be?

And why?

I currently have a 3800+

Since the 3800+ singlecore is better than the X2 3800+ in gaming, or running a single task, should i just keep the 3800+ or buy a X2 3800+ for $80?

I am debating if i should buy a 3800+ X2 for $80 or keep the 3800+ singlecore, then buy a new dualcore computer later.

the x2 is daul core and i have it. i run nfs pro street very well med. and high settings also have 3gigs ram and an nvidia 7950 gt oc. it does every thing well

The X2 3800 is the far better choice because it is a dual core processor. In other words, you essentially have 2 processors in one chip. While the X2 has a lower clock speed (2 ghz) than the Athlon 3800 (2.4 ghz), it far outperforms it in multitasking and gaming because it has twice the power.
With the dual core, your performance wouldn't really be affected if a random virus scan popped up while you were playing, as it could just be assigned to the other core that the game isn't being processed on. With a single core, it would be processing the game and scan all on the same core, thusly slowing down your performance.

For gaming it would be a wash between the two, processor does not have a huge performance factor on gaming. But the second you typed video editing, ANYONE who knew anything about processors should have instantly said, go with the dual core, no question about it. WHY?, video editing applications are multithreaded, meaning they can fully take advantage of both cores, resulting in a huge performance gain over single cores.

I would say they are about the smae until I read video editing. Buy the x2. I do not need to go on because what I was going to say is covered in the previous answers
