No, I wait until after I open it to refrigerate it just like the instructions say. An example...I took a jar of salsa out of the cabinet last night and after eating a little, I placed the opened container in the refrigerator as the instructions stated.

So instead of opening and put it in the refrigerator, you open it first and then put it in the refrigerator right? . What can you do if it's already opened when you get it home ? Do you leave it out cause you haven't opened it, or put it in the refrigerator because it's opened ?

If it doesn't need to be refrigerated until it's opened, I put it in my pantry and wait until I'm ready to use it to open it. Then refrigerate it after that.
I don't wait until I'm completely out of something like mayo before buying another, and if I put the new one in the fridge, it may get used before the other is completely gone.

Depends on what it's shelf life is once it is opened. Take Hellmanns Mayo for example it says "refrigerate for up to 3 mths after opening" .....3 mths lol...be lucky if it lasts a week in our house lmao. or other items that can go in the larder cupboard for years but as soon as it is opened it has to go in the fridge & has to be used in 6 weeks for Heinz Tom Sauce & similar or some items can only be kept for 2 or 3 days after opening....so as you see it depends on what it is first. xx

If it is room temperature when I bring it home, I wait until I need it and then when I open it I refrigerate the left overs.

I learned a long time ago that the pictures on frozen food packages do NOT look like the stuff I take out of the oven, that 'new and improved' means that they added a new odor, reduced the amount of material and increased the price.
Therefore, I don't believe anything that I read on a label and don't need some ad-guy to tell me what to do with my food.
Once the stuff starts growing mold, I either toss it, feed it to the cats, or use it to start a yogurt culture with the milk that I didn't refrigerate, either.
(The above is a feeble attempt at humor, mostly).

After you've opened and used a portion of it then you're supposed to refrigerate.
