I recently got a .9 GPA for my Fall Semester. I am a freshman and anything below a .99 qualifies as academic suspension.

I have no idea what this means, but I plan on writing an appeal. I have battled depression this semester and college has been very overwhelming for me. I realize what went wrong, and I really need help!

Are universities extremely harsh with appeals? I would think since it's my first semester and I'm close to the cut-off point that they would hopefully give me a second chance, but I don't know anything about that.

Otherwise, if it is denied, how long does a suspension usually last? I planned on taking summer courses, so would I be able to come back in the summer?

Ouch. If you go to a large university, the appeals process will probably not end in your favor. Talk to a counselor or the Dean of Admissions and explain your doings, and I'm sure everything will work out.
I think that they have to put you on probation before they suspend you.

a .9 GPA converts to about a 69% D. It will probably last until u obtain a cumulative GPA of 1.0 or above. To do that you probably need to get a 2.0-2.5 your next semester, but you should shoot for a 3.0. GOOD LUCK

I think it depends on the school. Why don't you make an appointment to talk to one of the deans?
