I need this to be able to pick up dog hair as well as to get rid of allergens in the carpet. I have allergies and am about to be bringing a new baby home.

Dyson
for the money nothing we have ever owned can compare.
depending on model they are a little inconvenient when using the hose and attachments.
can get at wal-mart for as little as $400.00

With heavy allergies, a giant dog and three rabbits, I swear by the Dyson animal. It's amazing what it can pick up (try using it right after you've vacuumed with your old vacuum), and the filters are washable, rather than replaceable so you're not spending money on that down the road. To start out, they are pricy, but they really do the job wonderfully.

Have use alot of different vacs. Used to sell them too. Went out and bought a Wind tunnel a couple of years ago, its in the basement. It has a hepa filter. We had a Golden Retreiver, since passed, his long hair would wind up in the belt and smell up the house. I found a used Rainbow at a garage sale for $25.00. Best investment ever. Dirt doesn't mix with water. I was going to buy a new one but came accross this one. I know this is going to get bashed but I also haven't sold Rainbows for 30 years. You can buy a good used one.

Dyson, The Ball. Works awesome, has easy to use attachments and a superlong hose. Picks up anything with ease. Lightweight and unbelievably easy to maneuver. Hepa filter, so you never get allergens back into your room. Never get your hands dirty emptying the bin. It is the best vacuum on the market. I got mine at www.costco.com

try the 'Shark".
It's a handy upright , cheap vacuum (approx. $70.) but picks up dog hair, etc. as well as the expensive vacs.
Lightweight , easy to use & store!

If you have allergies, then you need faux hardwood floors instead of dust collecting carpets.

Eliminate the middleman.
