it doesn't really matter because people have different oppinions about different players. Like everybody keeps comparing MJ to Kobe shaq to wilt and many others. we can go on and on about these superstars but the argument will never come to an end. that is why the NBA has created the "Greatest 50". Have you ever noticed in the Greatest 50 they haven't ranked the players, it just has a list of best. The reason of that is because they know if they had ranked them it would have a major controversy.

It's all about opinion. Some people would say the obvious (Jordan). Others would say it was Magic, or Wilt. Some would even say it's a present day player like Kobe or Lebron. So really you're right we can never know who is truly the greatest basketball player ever.

I share your opinion.
Every Era is going to have the "greatest".
The game has changed, more games are played,
three point rule, silly rule changes for more fouls.
And today's style of play is less about finesse than ever before. Sometimes I think I am watching American football without the pads!
Have a great New year!

Who knows what the future will hold but as of the last few remaining days of 2007, Bill Russell still has the most accomplishments, at least in North American basketball. 5MVPs and 11 rings in 13 years. If we combine his college and pro careers, his tally reads something like this: 13 championships in 16 years. Absolute domination.

No with the different eras we can't compare Russell and MJ, or Bird, but we can compare who most dominated their respected era

i agree i mean we never mikan vs russell or russell vs jordan and we will never see that happens because of the eras they played in and of the style of plays that have changed through that time period.
