A "Locked" phone is a phone that can only be used with one service. For example the iPhone which can only be used with cingular normally. Then you unlock it and then it can be used with t-mobile and all the other companies.

A unlock phone means that the software on the phone has been changed so that you can use the phone on a different network or with any cell phone provider.

For instance if you have a unlocked phone that uses a sim card on the back of the phone, then technically you can use that phone on A T&T Wireless, or on T-Mobile. You are not stuck with only one provider but have options to use it elsewhere. A T&T, T-Mobile uses phones that work on GSM network (sim cards on the back of the phone) while Sprint and Verizon Wireless only uses phones that operate on CDMA network (no sim cards).

It means that the phone no longer has its constrictions the factory installed on them. For example, the Apple iPhone was made primarily for AT&T, but some people hacked it, thus making it "unlocked" so you can use it with whatever service carrier you have. Not 100% sure, but I also assume it means being able to use a phone that was made primarily for Europe over here in the US. You get what I mean...

THIS MEANS THAT YOUR SIM CARD WELL WORK ON THAT PHONE .ITS MADE TO WORK WITH ANY GSM SERVICE JUST AS LONG AS IT TAKES A SIM CARD.
