when i get stressed out or upset or have problems with anxiety i tend to bite or chew on the skin over my knuckles on my hands, and its not really something i can help. it doesnt break the skin or anything but my knuckles are usually sort of red and sometimes have scabs, like when you have a small abrasion or something. i know its kind of gross, and i wouldnt really consider it self injury but my friend thinks it is

Whether it is self-injury or not is not so important as getting it stopped. You don't like what you are doing to yourself, so you want it to stop and you can do it. Every time you feel anxious, just breathe deeply and relax your muscles. Think of a far away landscape. Remember how badly you want to not hurt yourself or look nervous. Just make yourself be calm. It is the best way and you can be the person you want to be.

Yes, this is self injury, whether or not you actually get blood. You need to find other ways to deal with your stress. You can go to these forums http://www.facetheissue.com/community and talk to other users on there about this issue in the Self Injury section. I have gotten great advice from these guys. I hope my suggestion helps.

I also agree with your friend. Maybe you need some sort of medical attention for your anxiey. What will happen if you really got upset and did break the skin, and then got an infection? Seek medical attention.

It could qualify as self-injury, but very minor. Don't worry about it unless it gets more extreme, than consider talking to someone about it or finding other ways to vent stress that are less destructive.

usually a self injury would be inflicting pain to relieve the pain. Like in "cutting". I think this may just be a nervous habit for you to deal with stress.
