To increase demand for the films, to add extras, add new formats (HD DVD), and totake advantage of the limited shelf space that Disney has reserved. They have way more titles than they have room for, and they don't want their movies mixed in with other movies. They want all the disney movies on the disney shelves together.

That is just how it works. It is a marketing strategy.

Disney has done this for a long time. They release an old movie on tape and DVD for a few months and then stop distribution. It goes in the "vault". Then in 5 - 10 years when a new group of kids has reached the right age, they do it again. It becomes a "fresh" movie for a new market.

hmm, i've heard them say this, but i don't really think they would put them away and never sell them. you can always buy any movie any time. i agree with the first answer. its probably just their way of saying "HURRY, go buy our videos because their going in the "vault" ". just their way of getting you to buy their movies.
