he is 3 months and i have to go back to work and pumping takes a long while , so i am really wanting to give him formula

You need to do step by step : when he hunry the give him an bottle , if he dont like it , that's ok the go back to breastfeed then do that again on next times . You can not stop him right away .

It doesn't sound like he's ready to stop nursing.
How old is he? What have you tried feeding him so far?

my son is almost three and I still nurse. I am trying to stop but it's really hard. I tried putting mustard on my nipples but he still nursed. I recommend checking out the La Leche League website. I also recommend trying to stop before the age of two. The older they get the harder it is to stop.

You can't stop all at once you need to wean him off. Try baby cereals.
