I have a boss that seem to think hand written notes on paystubs about our income (there not always postive) is a good thing to do. Is it illegal to write on someone paystub. I live in NY

I do not think that is illegal anywhere - in fact the paystub itself can be handwritten as long as it is accurate.

The paystub is a offical document issued by the company. The company can choose to communicate this way. it is highly unusual but not illegal.

While it may not be illegal to write on a paystub, if it's inappropriate comments, I would speak to her boss, and if necessary, find an attorney who specialize in HR legal matters, and take them to court. Of course, you will need to be prepared to be unemployed if you lose the case.

Writing on them is fine. Before computers all check stubs were hand written. As long as you are given your gross and deductions it is legal. These days most stubs have year to date totals and even accrued vacation and sick leave.
