little example of what i mean
the other day a young friend of mine mentioned that he had just seen "the three musketeers" with charlie sheen , kefer sutherland and oliver platt . and that he liked it . i said that if he liked the film then he should deffinatly read the book (you might notice from my name that i like that book) a few days later he came and told me that he didn't like the book at all , he couldn't get into it and that he ended up putting it down after only the first few chapters and he said it was because i was nothing like the film ...........so what i want to know is do you think that preconceptions from film and tv are affecting the up and comming generations and not allowing them to think for themselves and open there minds to the world??

Absolutely! We are raising a generation who knows nothing but what they have seen on television! What they don't realize is that the book IS the original, and by reading they get the unadulterated point of view of the author without the points of view of the director and producer getting in the way.

Definately.
The hype and action of a film grab them and when they read a book, they have no imagination to actually think about what is happening. They are waiting for the book to start the action and when the words do not faze them they get bored with it. They cannot understand why it is so different from the film.

I think young people need to start using their brains in the sense that watching TV everything they see, it's already imagined for them. It's someone else's vision of the story. Young people need to start using their imagination.

I know what you mean. Lots of people don't appreciate anything but what their being force-fed their entire lives. (TV, trashy books, popular activities) It's pretty sad. All I can say is I'm glad my parents are intelligent, and homeschooling DOES have benefits!
