i agree with lawrie , a desert is NOT only a hot inhospitable place , a desert can be cold and covered with snow/ice , so yes , you can survive in a desert without water , you could walk through antartica and eat the snow to survive

It depends on what was available in that particular desert and what the general climate is.
Now, Eastern Washington State is technically a desert, but it is a temperate desert and the temperatures usually aren't high at all. The definition of desert isn't warm place', it is just one that gets little or no rainfall.
Also, there are some sources of water in many deserts. ...if you find one, you can stop for water there. Two examples from the Grand Canyon are Indian Gardens (a natural spring) and the might Colorao River. The North Rim even gets some snow most winters, so if you were at high elevations, you could get water by eating the snow.
Sometimes water can be extracted from food....if you can find some desert fruit that you know is not toxic, that can sometimes keep you going. If you can find plants that you know are non-toxic, then you can try digging for some shallow roots. These will usually contain a certain degree of water; and if you are EXTREMELY fortunate (one in ten million a chance, more than likely) then it is possible you MAY find a trickle of underground spring. Extremely unlikely, as I said, but there is at least the tinist possibility.
In times of EXTREME desperation, it IS actually recommended that you drink your own urine. While this is obviously not the ideal decision, it is better than nothing and WILL NOT HARM YOU as long as there is nothjhng bad alreday in your system. As I said, thugh, it is far better to resort to this than to risk death by dehydration.
If you honestly went seven days and had no water, you would most likely die around or before that point. Usually, people say that you will die after about three days....this is not always true, though, as was illustrated by the case when Terri Schiavowas taken off all life support and managed to hold on for a few more days than that. After about three days, without water, though, most people would become EXTREMLY enfeebled....they usually begin to hallucinate, as well, and become very confused , disoriented, and irrational. If THIS happened to you in the wilderness, it would be a death sentnce unless someone else found and hydrated you extremly, extremely quickly.
If you are in a situation where the desert is extremely hot (e.g. death Valley)or extremely cold (e.g. Antarctica), then you might very well be dead of freezing or heatsroke within a few minutes to a few hours.
So, to summarize:
Yes, it is hypothetically possible to survive a seven-day trek across the desert even if you do not have drinking water with you. It is very unlikely under certain environmental conditions, however, and is going to be a death sentence in some parts of the world with extremely inhospitable climates.

With a large piece of plastic, or even a raincoat, it's quite possible.
In fact there are many ways of making solar stills for water, from the plastic sheeting mentioned, to two plastic bottles (this method can even produce safe drinking water from urine).
With water you can do anything, and you can always use the plastic sheet/raincoat as shelter from the sun, and travel at night using the stars to navigate.

depends if its a hot desert like the sahara or a cold desert like antartica... id imagine it wud be easier to spend 7 days in the antartic without water.. either way, by the end of it ud have severe dehydration... note that when ur body loses 15% of its water content then ur close to death

I have a super good idea try it and let is know how it works. But wait until its like 115 out in the desert first. But be sure to have someone watch you so if you don't make it.

I doubt it, cuz there is no source of water, and although your body could last 7 days without food, it can ony last about 3 without water, and drinking your own urine is not a possibility, cause you cannot do that when you are dehidrated, cuz it will just make you more dehidrated...so I don't believe so........unless of course you get rescued ;]

sure.
if there is soda or oranges, and lunchables and slimjims.
of course i'd have to be in a jeep too.
now the question is whether or not i could make it with the gas mileage.
however, if i'm in the desert i'm sure there's loads of oil.
cha ching.
no.
if it's just me and sand in my crack.
i'd dehydrate, suffer third degree burns, freeze to death at night, and let myself get bitten by a yellow spotted lizard.
unless there's onions on god's thumb.
i don't even like onions.
